The director of the business spent over half an hour introducing himself and the course which felt way too long. A quick 10 minutes would have been perfectly fine.

The room has limited space and was quite uncomfortable to sit for the duration of the course with limited leg space.

Communication could have been better - The trainer has a very strong accent and some of the words were mispronounced which made it difficult when trying to understand the medical terminology. The trainer introduced himself as a surgeon but there was no evidence of this. I felt throughout that perhaps his qualification was exaggerated which of course is worrying when you want to be trained by someone with a wealth of experience. If he had introduced himself as being a phlebotomist for a number of years, this would have been sufficient.
The work pack provided does not include a simple step by step protocol of how to take blood.
It was not communicated that I would be taking blood on the day or having my blood taken. No medical history was taken from anyone and most people had the wrong type of clothing.

The equipment was cleaned with dettol kitchen spray which doesn’t seem sufficient for cleaning affectively when working with bloods.

There is no where local to buy food for lunch unless you don’t mind a sandwich from Londis.

A large bottle of water could have been provided upon entry, owing to the importance of staying hydrated when having blood taken.

The second part of the course involves going into a practice to take bloods from patients. I personally didn’t feel prepared to do this so I decided to go through another phlebotomy company to redo my training.

The training was excellent and covered all areas needed and it was a friendly but professional atmosphere. I completed this training a couple of weeks ago and was surprised at the amount of confidence I had coming out of the live blood taking sessions. The clinic for this was fully booked which meant I was able to get stuck in and put what I have learned during the theory session in to practice - thank you all it was an enjoyable couple of days.
