Waiting time for my appointment was not very late. When I went into see a doctor told me what I needed to do. He was very helpful and polite.
If you are going to be at the hospital a long time there's a cafe and a staff cafe you can use. I suggest the food in the staff cafe cheaper if open.

I visited this hospital the other day and it feels almost as if I received no care.

Upon arrival in Ambulance I was wheeled into the waiting room because I could not walk and was extremely lethargic, I was seen in triage and my blood oxygen/pressure were taken alongside some questions before I was wheeled back into the waiting room where I was unfortunately away from any other patients due to the wheelchair. Having been in hospital for the same thing before, I can vet that in another hospital I visited a lot more was done to ensure my safety. Perhaps it was deemed that the nature of my overdose was not as severe (as I don’t believe the medication turned out to be lethal) but it would have been nice to be at least told I was going to be okay or what was going to happen to me as I was left scared and in uncertainty.

I understand that hospitals are incredibly busy places, but it took 10 and a half hours for me to be seen again by the nurses. During this time, having been brought in due to a suicide attempt/mental health crisis I sat covered in my own blood on every inch of my skin under my clothes which was 1. Incredibly painful and I could barely move due to the excruciating pain, 2. It was incredibly uncomfortable to be covered in dried blood and I was unable to stop myself from crying/having panic attacks because of the state I was in (which nobody questioned me about, I was told to go and sit down when I approached a nurse having a panic attack) 3. Some of my wounds are now infected (which I expressed concern about to the nurse on duty who told me “I think you’ll be fine”) so thanks for that one!! Some of wounds are also still open because the judgement of the nurse who saw me after my 10 hour wait was that the blood on me was too messy to clean up so they could not even see the majority of my injuries. I was told to clean myself up in the shower when I got home because my wounds would definitely “reopen” once the blood was washed off.. yeah I know!! That’s why you should be helping me to treat them? Because they did reopen once I got home and are now infected, some of them I have not been able to patch up myself because the steri strips I was given by the mental health nurse will not hold them together. Some of these wounds reached the depth where a little of my fat was visible, which I’d have imagined could have done with even a little bit of medical attention, but I was given nothing at all other than two paracetamol after 11 hours.

I was unable to access the charging lockers for my phone due to my wheelchair, but I was also unaware that these existed (perhaps to my own fault) so I was left to sit with my own thoughts for 10 hours whilst I waited, which is perhaps not the best when you’ve just tried to kill yourself.

I have had to miss my university lectures today as I cannot walk without my cuts reopening and I’m still in immense pain, my room is still painted in blood and I honestly don’t know what to do with myself. I don’t live with my family, as I’m in student accommodation, so this whole process has been incredibly isolating.

Additionally, having taken a few of my sleeping pills I felt tortured having to sit in the wheelchair for this much time, unable to even rest my head. I did not expect a bed because I know there are other people waiting, the circumstances were incredibly unfortunate for everyone. In the end I’d been awake for about 40 hours before I slept at home since it had been overnight I’d been brought in and student life is busy which had kept me up previously.

I spoke to one of the mental health practitioners who admittedly was incredibly understanding and made me feel listened to/understood. She gave me some bandages/steri strips not even having seen my wounds because she believed that they were bad enough to require treatment from my description and then I was told to go home, so I just left.

The receptionist was very helpful, friendly, patient and careful. I waited in the hospital to see the doctor for an urgent about 4 hours. And the average of waiting is 2.5 hours, and i cannot book an appointment for my situation. Which make it very bad experience, and it seems that the management of the hospital is absolutely ridiculous. The doctor was nice, but he was trying to finish as early as possible. He made some mistakes in a letter about my situation, but overall, he was alright. I will never come again to the hospital, except if i don’t have a choice. And i prefer to book an appointment with unity health, since they have much better service.

Every experience I've had with York Hospital has been professional and good.
I've been in A and E twice due to a heart condition and the nurses and doctors were very attentive, the paramedics are always great people too, following protocol to a high standard.
My partner has been in there a couple of times for neurological issues and the process that she was put through in the CT scans and FMRI machines were flawless and they all made her feel at ease.
York Hospital is a shining example of doing the best they can with the shattered pieces that the NHS is in.

Extremely unhappy with having my pregnancy here. The entire experience has been horrible. Other than the hospital and the absolutely useless midwife appointments I have loved being pregnant, but the hospital has made it miserable and depressing. I will never be pregnant again after this because of how horrible the experience has been and what I’ve mentally been put through. I can’t believe they treat pregnant women like this.

First of all the staff are all incredibly rude, spiteful and uncaring. I’ve had appointments where I’ve ended up crying and not a shed of concern or support was shown. Routinely appointments are late and get booked incorrectly (and good luck getting them fixed! Phones are rarely answered and even when you’re there, front desk staff seem to have no clue!), you’re told to do something or go somewhere that turns out to be wrong and get scolded by other staff for it, and you have to endure the staff complaining about each other because one person will tell you one thing, another will say something else and clearly no one is on the same page.

I’ve heard most women have a few appointments during their pregnancy and get blood taken around ~5 times—the doctors joke about how many appointments I’ve had and how many times my blood has been taken (over 20 times) by telling me, “You’re like a pin cushion!” and “You’re lucky you’re not employed right now because you’d have to miss so much with all these appointments!”. And yet nothing has been found wrong with my pregnancy. I’ve developed extreme fear and anxiety about my appointments and having my blood taken, especially because so many times mistakes have been made when trying to take my blood which result in huge bruises that last for weeks, or I’ve been told things at appointments that turn out to be completely false by the next appointment but had me worried sick I might lose my baby.

Overall I just can’t believe what I’ve been put through and the way I’ve been treated. I wouldn’t wish this upon ANYONE, especially other pregnant women who are already going through so much and on top of it have to deal with the horrible service at the hospital. I’ve spoken to many other women I know who have had pregnancies at York Hospital who tell me the exact same experiences I’ve had so I know I’m not a unique case either. They go on about how you should be relaxed during your pregnancy and that it’s important for the baby, and then they become the biggest source of stress for you and don’t care about it at all. Something needs to change.

Donna and her team/ colleagues couldn't have been more helpful if they tried and my son wasn't even a patient on ward 16.

I was in a stressful situation on a bank holiday urgently needing some dressings for my sons leg following his operation. I had trailed around all the pharmacys and purchased the last of the type of dressing required. I had been on the children's ward opposite to try and source what was needed but this was a post surgical dressing and they didn't have any, as I was leaving not knowing what to do I thought I would ask on ward 16. Donna and her colleagues were helpful, kind, understanding and so very compassionate to my situation. Thank you ladies, much appreciated.

The Urgent Care Centre is on your left when you walk through the main door, however you first have to report your symptoms at the Emergency Department, which is back outside and a 100 yards away in another building. Bit of a faff. Don't see why they're so far apart and why the reception at the main building can't double as place to report symptoms.

Recently came to the A&E department with my girlfriend (ended up having to stay for three days). I’ve given four stars because we had a lot of waiting around which seemed unnecessary, however, Dr Asim Abbas (eurologist) was the most amazing doctor ever, he explained everything in a calm, understanding manor, even when the news was tough to hear, and was extremely reassuring, compassionate and knowledgeable.
