This is a very difficult place to review as the staff are so nice, professional, and welcoming. The fabric and condition of the building, footpaths, and roads are absolutely horrific. It is hard to believe that in 2025, we have an NHS hospital operating in conditions that we would recognise in the underdeveloped world. The powers that can not be blind to the conditions here and the fact that the community depends on as well as the poor staff that have to work day and night in these conditions. This has to change.

Waited for more than 3 hours in A&E and not a single doctor attended. We checked with the receptionist and she told us it will take another 5 hours for a doctor to attend.
It seems like our lives are in danger as we cannot take any urgent treatments from this hospital.
If you wanna die without any treatments this is the place to visit. Good luck Watford people.

The building itself needs a bit of tlc but staff are what makes a hospital and everyone at Watford General were magnificent. A&E, Cath Lab saved my life and CCU purple ward looked after me. Treating me with dignity and compassion. Forever grateful.

All I can say is WOW! What an experience, I felt quite ill, but I wasn’t the one sick. I took a dear friend into A&E at 4am she didn’t get seen until gone 8:30am. She had triage on arriving but I guess they concluded she’d live past 9 without treatment. The hospital looked as though it was a shelter, definitely needs an upgrade. I’m considering offering my services as a decorator. Doctors were in the minority hence the wait, other staff were in the majority. All looking tired tho. I don’t blame the work force for the service. We need better leaders who value the staff. And we the public should insist upon it. 2024, it felt more like 1894.

There are some amazing mental health nurses and amazing Nurses as well as doctors that do listen I found by the second day but my first day was hell!

I was left throwing up for several hours asking for a cannula and water fluids, they had given me oral tablets repeatedly I just threw them up and they took blood from me I kept saying its like the rooms spinning they discharged me after saying there was nothing wrong and I already had a diagnosis saying there was they keep scanning the same part of my body and sending me home giving me drugs I have had a extremely frustrating process here and will never return, was told I can go home then told to come
back and that I required discharge papers just to be followed around by security whilst out of it from the morphine the Paramedics gave me didn’t even know where I was or what was going on and was sectioned and painted to be crazy. I did tell staff several times I feel like the rooms spinning it’s getting worse and was ignored!

I have just completed treatment from The Dermatology Department at Watford. From my initial GP visit to completion was just over 2 months. I find this and the department overall to be exceptional. Great service, lovely and very competent staff - thank you.

I'm going to say good and bad
I have been a regular to Watford general over the last six years. My elderly mother was in and out alot with different problems. With my mother and my own visit, I have always found a & e to be amazing. Both of us were seen quickly many times. what was to be my last visit with my mother was the most distressing visit. Once in a ward. Prepared to let her go home after a week, blinding me with science as my mother sat slumped in the chair , almost unconscious. My concerns were taken on board and she stayed in the ward another month. They couldn't find out what was wrong and dispatched her to a care home. In the care home she was put in the dementia part. I was terrified as the staff just left her and one day they gave her a drink whilst she was lying flat despite knowing she had a hiatal hernia. Mother was sick and became unwell and ambulance took her back to a and e , this all just over a period of a few days. She passed away in a & e a few days later from a stroke that she had just as they were flushing her line. Her hand was mottled black and blue. I feel she was wrongly put in a bad care home. Not diagnosed properly by Watford general. You need to check your care homes out. I'm still having nightmares about it over a year later.

I have just spent 4 days at Watford hospital due to having appendicitis, resulting in having my appendix removed this week on Monday. I have got to say my treatment from beginning to the end has been outstanding. Each department I had contact with all went over and beyond to give me the best care and support during the horrible ordeal. From the urgent care and receptionists, to the nursing team accessing me, the AAU department, the surgeons that operated on me, they all gave me the time and clear guidances needed, even the cleaners were efficient and helpful, and all the Elizabeth ward were amazing! The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming and understanding to all the patients around, I have never seen this level of care in a hospital before, to this standard.
