A culture of victim-blaming pervades this place. Many unqualified people in important patient-facing positions. Notes/records are rarely accurate, if they are even written at all. They will go through the motions of GDPR, but not take it seriously at all when it comes to patient confidentiality. Wilfully ignorant of patient concerns, need to be dragged/forced into competency, which they are capable of with enough... persuasion.

I was at Allen Ward in 2022. Since then I have been under section once. There was a stark difference between the staff at both settings. Warneford is incredible. If I ever needed to be in hospital again, this is the place I would want to be! The staff are incredible, it's super clean, the activities are amazing. They genuinely care. Thank you!

Warneford Hospital in Oxford provides crucial mental health services in a peaceful and therapeutic environment. The hospital's commitment to patient care and its multidisciplinary approach to mental health treatment are commendable. The serene surroundings and green spaces contribute positively to the healing process. However, some may find the facilities dated or limited in certain areas due to the demand for mental health services. Overall, it serves as an essential institution catering to the mental health needs of the community, though there might be room for improvements in infrastructure and resources.

The clinicians ie nurses lack qualifications and are unprofessional, after reading through my risk assessment the woman I spoke to had written completely different things compared to the stuff I actually said, everything was also misspelled...even the most simple words. And to make the entire thing worse she kept staring at me and clutching her huge cross she had round her neck, felt like she was backwards and not in a fit mental state herself. She behaved in a strange manner and she was blatantly very devout but sadly it was not partnered with any intelligence whatsoever. Not sure who they are hiring as clinicians but every time I've had assessments at this place I have found the clinicians to be unprofessional and lacking in qualifications often hardly speaking any English and harbouring quite damaging ideas, many of them implied one being white meant one could not experience pain, suffering or mental health issues. Unbelievable.

Absolutely disgraceful the way that T and D have discharged my relative even though they are still suffering from severe depression and are clearly not in a fit state to be discharged. They now could be in a bad situation and that is entirely because of this hospital's neglect and lack of care.
One thing is for sure. what T and D have done is unacceptable and falls far short of the standard of care that is expected. This hospital should be ashamed.
Update: They have now discharged my dad again after he was re referred to the service despite knowing full well that he is clearly very unwell. This is the total opposite of how you would expect a proper, caring mental health service to behave and treat people.

My experiences as a patient of this hospital over the past 18 years has been utterly awful. Most of the clinicians are rude, aggressive and unhelpful and do their utmost to obstruct access to treatment rather than to help. The most recent development has been to find every excuse in the book to not even accept me as a patient, making up fictitious diagnoses so they can say "not our problem" and generally being condescending and nasty. A real classic was them acknowledging that group therapy would be inappropriate for me so they were making it a mandatory requirement before they would even consider offering help; though having read some of the reviews of the help offered, I suspect I've dodged a bullet there: I've certainly seen a number of clinicians who've worsened my problems rather than helped.
The latest "notice of refusal to help" was thanks to some social worker I've never heard of and certainly never met but who felt she was qualified to pontificate about my diagnosis. I'm left thinking that 1) social workers aren't doctors so she's way out of her depth here; and 2) isn't a social worker's primary function to actually speak to the person they're making decisions about? Maybe times have moved on and these are now acceptable. Also lol at the people who think I don't get to see the stuff they write just because they don't cc me.
So yeah, if you expect any sort of therapy, treatment, respect, anything your GP doesn't already do, you're going to be disappointed. And if you think you are going to get a care plan, inpatient care when you need it, any sort of care coordinator... don't look here. You will be disappointed.
How they have managed to get away with it for so many years remains a mystery.

I has put a 3* review, after thinking about the service I've received I couldn't hold the drs account for the attitude & belittlement frm a separate part of the hospital! & unfortunately the drs having to abide by the covid rules hasn't helped, although priority is given for most at risk, but many (unless private) will no doubt have to rely on their local hospitals!

This review is not about the medical side of the hospital but instead about the terrific café they have. Such tasty food and good service
