Excellent service. Vicky the receptionist made me feel heard and went out of her way to help me. All of the Drs genuinely care. Phlebotomist is amazing, I am always hard to bleed but she is done in seconds. Brilliant surgery.

My mother, who is in her 90's, has received excellent care and support from Bowthorpe surgery. This week, I observed Dr George listening patiently to her, giving her time and explaining things to her without patronising her. His respectful, kind approach really reassured her.

If i could give it less i would.
Moved here from another surgery due to re location. I was told its bad but bad doesnt even do it justice. Its the worst. Standard wait time in the Que is 20 mins while they serve one person and have a "natter" then dilly dally round looking like they doing somthing important but they not clearly. No sense of urgency to serve the people.
Then wait time for appointment is 4 weeks. Thats if you can fill in the form online and they deflect you off to pharmacy regardless of your issue. But then you tell them you been and they tell you to go again!! I mean the pharmacist is not the doctor so they are limited to what they know and can do.
Eventually you get an appointment and go after 4 weeks. Try booking in using the screen on the wall and it tells you to see the reception because your 1 min late. The receptionist takes 20 mins to see you then tells you your late by 20 mins so we cant see you!!!
If the bloody receptionist did their job and booked people in as they come in then maybe i would have seen the doctor.
Oh btw they said i would need to wait 4 weeks again for another appointment.
Ridiculous beyond ridiculous. Save your legs and go walk in center. Or better yet exaggerate your issue and get emergency appointment same day

My overall experience at Bowthorpe Medical Practice is wonderful. I have a wonderful GP, Dr. Sarah Jane Lang. She is empathic and a wonderful listener. If I ask for something, and she thinks it is not good for me, she explains it intelligibly and succinctly. My previous GP, Dr. Jane Craig, who retired in 2023, was the GP everyone would wish to have. I had the best 15 years with her. Before Dr. Craig, I was briefly looked after by Dr. Zoe Barber. She was an angel. She saved my life after she noticed that I had been seen by 4 GPs within 2 weeks with the same problem and that I didn't have a named accountable GP to me despite having a kidney transplant, hypertension, diabetes, heart condition, depression, and adrenal insufficiency. Furthermore, she became my GP briefly before she moved to Trinity Surgery. I have chosen to be treated by female GPs only after I had bad experiences with male GPs at this surgery. One example is when a male GP said that he did not believe that I have mental illness. He said, "I have seen people with depression, and you are not. You are just lazy. It's in your head" This hurts so much. I fell into deeper depression, only to be saved by Dr. Craig. Thank God, the male GP is no longer at the Bowthorpe Surgery. He moved away, and he is now a GP at Church Hill Surgery, Pulham Market, Diss. Reviews show that he is still rude to the patients at the new surgery, and I am glad that it was not me. But I believe that there are good male doctors there. My kidney transplant was performed by a male surgeon. In Long Stratton, I had a wonderful male doctor who helped me with a prepayment certificate for NHS prescriptions after he noticed that I was paying £140 per month for the 20 items on my prescription. With a prepayment certificate, I was paying £103 per year compared to the £1,680 per year that I was paying. Before I moved to Bowthorpe, I lived in Old Catton, and I had a superb male GP who helped me apply for a prescription exemption certificate, saving me £2,000. All my nephrologists, endocrinologists, urologists and cardiologists are male doctors, and they are wonderful. I hope my decision to be seen only by female GPs is not considered sexism or prejudice. I am still open to be seen by a male GP at the Bowthorpe Surgery, but I will always have doubts.

I was discharged from hospital after having a major operation, I called to speak/see a nurse about my dressing. The receptionist said they had to speak to the doctor first.
13 days later a nurse called and asked how I was getting on and how could they help. She explained both nurses had been on annual leave and was this explained to me! actually was this explained and discussed at the surgery to have no nurse cover, if this is true.
My only reply! I'm ending this call as Im really upset about this, I had to remove the dressing, have nothing to cover the wound, and I had to be alright.

The nurses are great and one doctor who I can't remember his name couldn't help you enough you but the rest just don't care about you at all. They just fob you off... example: I had a fall just before Christmas and hurt my finger. It swelled so just left it to go down on it's own but after a month it was still swollen and I couldn't bend my finger at all...it hurts so I sent a message online and they had a physio contact me to make an appointment...due to work I was unable to make that appointment and replied so saying I would need the latest appointment they have but my reply as short and told well we don't have any. That's it so I guess it will stay this way forever then. I also have been having really bad memory issues....only to be told, well we don't know what it is, there is nothing wrong but oh yeah you do have dead brain tissue. No thought of further testing or help or even how to help myself. Basically I just have to deal with it regardless if I become a danger to myself or others. So now I'm trying to find another doctor's but the reviews I have read subject I should just self diagnose and avoid all but a and e in the future. Good luck getting any help from this lot

Shocking how long they expect you to wait for a appointment, no longer exist at this place to see a dr on the day for a appointment for concern or reassurance with a worrying issue, definitely made my mental health worse , 3 weeks Iv got to wait with some worrying issues that Iv been told to see a dr soon as , never get anywhere either ! such a let down and worry when you can’t even see a dr anymore on the day or even a couple of day when your health goes down hill and want some answers everything is long winded and no care is shown when you explain your worry’s over waiting so long . Definitely be moving surgery I want to be able to receive the care everyone should get when wanting or needing to see a dr not a text with a 3 week wait !
