My online appointment with Dr O'Neill Kerr left me feeling heard, understood, and genuinely optimistic about my future mental health. I am a complex case with more than one diagnosis, and have been seen by many specialists and psychiatrists over the past two decades.
One can always hope that a doctor will be open and listen to you, and then you can always hope that the doctor is someone who is up to date with the latest research in at least one of your diagnoses. But with Dr. O'Neill Kerr, I was so pleased to realise that he is all of these things: knowledgeable in multiple research areas, patient and relaxed, and then kind and reassuring.
He respected my thoughts on diagnosis and treatment; being sensitive to my need to be taken seriously. I felt like an equal partner in the conversation, and I got to ask all my questions, which he answered dutifully, taking into consideration my level of understanding of neurochiemistry and pharmacology.
Those of us who have been struggling with mental health for a long time, and often find ourselves let down by the medical profession will understand how valuable such a doctor is.
