My dad was meant to stay for 1 week respite which he had never had before. Firstly the smell upstairs was awful & we was told it is because the old ladies have water infections. The room dad was given was disgusting & dirty from overl stained carpets, ladies clothes still in the wardrobe, dirty inside drawers with hair clips left inside, dust & cobwebs hanging from ceiling light to wall light, & the en-suite hadn’t even been cleaned, the sink was stained & grimey & the toilet still had poo inside, the view was over the bins & overflowing skips but after all this we was told to tell dad if this certain lady stands in his doorway or comes into his room then just ignore her as she gets really aggressive, ERMMM excuse me but my dad has dementia & wouldn’t remember this. I fell to the floor sobbing at the thought of leaving him here. I asked could he not have a room on the bottom floor which was available & much quieter but was told “Sorry but these are for private paying clients” in which we was, but they still declined. I had asked for his en-suite light to be left on during the night with the door closed as there was a gap so if he woke in the night he could see where he was going but this never happened. Into his 3rd night he had a fall & was found on the floor at the side of his bed & I was told he’d fallen out of bed which something that he’d never done before but later that day he told my uncle & myself he hadn’t fallen out of bed but was getting up to the toilet but the light was off & he couldn’t see & tripped on the duvet which had slipped off the bed. He was stood up & walking no problem over the next 2 days but on the 4th day at lunch I got a call to say 1 of dads legs is longer than the other & he’s in pain so they rung for an ambulance, he had broken his hip & had surgery the next day. He spent only 4 nights at this care home yet I still had to pay for the full week. I had no call from the manager checking on dad which is disgusting. My dad spent the next 6 months in hospital & no longer walked again he declined so much before he passed away 3 months later.
