Summary: You don't get what you pay for

I attended a 1-day seminar on self-hypnosis. After 8 hours, we did not learn how to perform self-hypnosis.

This is because the 1-day seminar was mixed in with students doing a longer course, who were doing the practical lessons on other days. Day 1 was theory and discussion only.

I asked about the content and was told we could download self-study content. (The instructor did not seem to think there was any problem with this.) I paid for a live course, not self-study. However, I downloaded the content and, still, it did not cover how to perform self-hypnosis in a comprehensive way.

I was very disappointed that after spending time and money, I did not learn the desired skill, and I will have to put more time and money into another seminar or book to learn the desired skill.

The theory part was fine, and the instructor seemed qualified in hypnosis, and possibly the longer (and more expensive) course meets the objectives... but this seminar did not meet the learning objective, and I think that they should offer a refund and rethink how they offer seminars in the future.

I am studying currently on this course and have been quite thorough in selecting it. Its not my first time doing trainings in new area and what really stands apart is several things. Very inspiring teachers especially head of the college. I get inspired every time i listen to lectures.

Another great thing is focus on building confidence in students. Its really hard to start a new subject alone and a new career. Course really excels at keeping you going.

Another great thing is hub where can practice every week and build experience plus numerous workshops on various techniques, as well as how to launch the business. It really made a difference.

Course has a good community sense because of hun can get a lot of advice and support.

Cannot recommend enough. I had a personal transformative experience just by doing the course which did not anticipate.

My life got better in so many areas just through applying same principles that were taught on myself.

My first intro to the college was as a client (thank you Slee Parrish) and I was amazed at the results in just two sessions that I signed up for the course. The course is rich in learning and practice supported by great tutors and supervisors. I learned life changing skills that I’m still putting to personal use every day.

Great marketing, poor content, poor value for what it costs, non-genuine support...
This is a course based on trauma bonding.
* If you love being told what to do and follow it without questioning it because you perceive it coming from an (so called) authority,
* If you're okay being told off because the content you share on their platform does not fit into their way of thinking,
YOU'LL LOVE THIS COURSE.

However, * if you're someone who seeks answers, genuinely want to help and support people,
* someone who is open to discussions, not settling with one way of looking at ideas, and theories,
YOU MIGHT BE HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS COURSE.

As a therapist, I must say I'm concerned about this course and the potential impact it may have on their students' clients.

I completed my level 5 CBH diploma with the college within 4 months. First, I would like to say what is fabulous about the diploma. This is an exceptional qualification that is evidence-backed and I have already achieved excellent outcomes with clients. Other positives. The content provided in the course manual is excellent. Some of the tutors are amazing, in terms of delivery and professionalism, particularly Sue Sawyer, Tim Grimwade and Shelley Cushway. I am sure there are others, but I did not meet them. The course was excellent value for money and could be done speedily. That all warrants 5-stars.

What drags down my rankings?
1. The strategy is aggressively sales-driven. Their concept is piling students into an ever bigger sales funnel with little interest in user experience.
2. Content: videos are very old and many of poor quality. There is no diversity of content.
3. The tech is poor and the student hub is an organisational quagmire. Their answer is to add more content, rather than take the bull by the horns, refresh, re-organise, streamline and restructure the hub / user experience.
4. There's virtually no focus given to treatment planning. It's parachuted in on the last training day. The diploma is a professional not academic course. Many students finish out of their depth and unprepared to start their case studies.
5. There's a huge inconsistency in marking. A colleague had their paper accidentally marked twice and there was a 30% difference in grade. It can also take over 3-months to get the questions marked (ignoring resubmissions). This is important if you are in a career transition and are currently don't have an income.
6. Finally, there's a big discrepancy in teaching. Some tutors are poor; others ignore timetables so massively impacting breaks leaving students exhausted. Saying that, this last gripe is common amongst students in all educational institutions.

Takeaways for those considering the course:
1. The web cam experience is a must. My peer group have become life long friends and a group I use for business advice, workshop planning and peer to peer treatment ideas. It is very lonely and demoralising doing it alone.
2. As soon as you start the course set up a WhatsApp group.
3. Don't expect the college to provide any answers to organisational issues. It's not worth engaging with them. Use your peer group
4. Start your first client case study after you have finished level 1. It makes you feel like a therapist and understand the point of the course. Further, once you have done the CBT part you can't remember how to treat a client without using CBT.
5. Don't expect your supervisor to help you with treatment planning. Instead, convert your (rather pointless) 12 mandatory practice sessions into treatment sessions. Work through different case studies with your peer group and get the tutor to feed in at the end. This makes the practice sessions into an invaluable learning experience.
6. The questions are not academic. If you look closely you will see one is even repeated! Forget the slides. Forget extracurricular reading. Just use the manual and get it done. .
7. Don't fret about setting up your business whilst you are doing the course (unless you want too). It is a huge diversion and takes you down a path you have no time for until you have passed. Focus. Do the case studies. Finish the questions. Qualify. Build your business.
8. It is virtually impossible to pass the level 5 diploma in the time line suggested by the college (3-months).The first 5 questions can take up to 4 weeks to mark. The second batch up to 60-days! This already exceeds 3-months. Then if you need a remark... another month rolls by
8. There can be huge inconsistencies between examiner speed. Some are very quick and some very slow. Just keep chasing the college.
7. The College is sales-driven. They want you to to buy more courses. Ignore the chocolate box diversion. Keep focused and qualify! Buy as many courses as you like once you qualify.

Good luck and see you on the other side!

I initially trained in hypnotherapy some 20 years ago. Whilst I thoroughly enjoyed my training, I did not consider that it sufficiently equipped me to use hypnosis in my therapeutic work. Revisiting hypnotherapy, initially just for fun, at the UK College of Hypnosis has changed all that! I completed the diploma via webcast two years ago. Not only was the diploma great fun to do, delivered by trainers that were both highly experienced and knowledgeable about their subject, but I also feel that the college has provided an enormous amount of additional support, to ensure that I could confidently take hypnotherapy, with CBT, into independent professional practice. Practice groups ensured that I could practice techniques and provided help with assignments; supervision has been invaluable for guidance with individual case studies...and then, post graduation, there has been further training available AND support with the business side of setting up in private practice. I could not have asked for more; the quality of every aspect has been outstanding. I would recommend the college to anyone interested in hypnotherapy or other therapists simply wanting to add to their therapeutic tool-kit.

The course well over delivered on my expectations. I must say it really changed my life. As part of the course we covered three major areas of becoming Cognitive Behaviour Hypnotherapist - Hypnosis, Behaviour and Cognitions.

The trainers were very knowledgeable and very supportive. People on the course were amazing and the personal changes on my own life and my own way of thinking had enabled me to look at life from a far better perspective. I would recommend this course to everyone.
