I attended the Portland Hospital with my two year-old for a day stay operation With a plastics consultant. From start to finish the experience was positive. We were welcomed by a friendly team and every person we spoke to also engaged with my little boy. Usually he can be a little difficult in a situation where he’s having tests and seeing doctors, but he was completely cooperative and comfortable with all the staff. I didn’t sense any nervousness from him at all. When he was taken to be put to sleep, I found it quite difficult, but the staff were reassuring and comforting. We saw several members of staff from nursing to the consultant, anaesthetist and the play team, they provided my two children with of a variety of toys to keep them entertained during the wait.

The care after the operation was just as good and the nursing team kept What are you doing? checking in to make sure he was recovering okay. The food was great, and there was a wide variety of choice.

Having experience this hospital for the first time, I would not hesitate to have any procedures for my children Here over any other hospital.

Thank you for making what can be a very stressful and emotional time e and comfortable as it could possibly be.

Yesterday I had an endometrial ablation again with Dr Amelia Davison. I had the same nurse, Nurse Kelly, the same lady who helped me with my two procedures in September. And this time, I had another lovely nurse, Aika, who popped in to check on my when Nurse Kelly wasn't around. They were very attentive with me as my blood pressure was low after surgery and I appreciate the care before discharging me. This surgery was gave me a feeling of period pain but no cramps so I was able to eat a bigger meal, a burger, which was great as I'm anemic. I'd like to thank the ever-so friendly Dr Mark Esler, the same anesthetist I used for my September procedures. And also to the lovely nurse who humored me as I was going into surgery with my rambling about my orange allergy, and tucked me in when I said I was feeling cold. I think her name was Zam, possibly. While I hope to not need to go in a third time, if I do, Dr Amelia and the Portland will be my preferred choice.

In September 2024, I had a hysteroscopy and myomectomy here with Dr Amelia Davison. I felt relaxed from day one and was treated exceptionally well by everyone who attended to me at the Portland. I was so relaxed and comfortable in my room that I took a nap before going to theatre. My two nurses (one wearing a uterus badge) were friendly and explained what I should expect before and after the procedure. The anesthetist was Dr Esler and came to see me before the procedure and also when I was in recovery, which I've never experienced before, but made me smile as I felt he genuinely cared for me as a patient. One of the nurses, a lovely American lady with the uterus badge whose name I've forgotten, reminded me that feeling pain is pain, and this was nice; not being gaslighted and having my pain dismissed. Dr Davison was attentive, explained the procedure to me and made me feel at ease, well-informed, and that I was safe in her hands. The bonus was that the food choices were excellent, and they cared enough to take my food allergy seriously and ensure it wasn't in my food. Exceptional service by wonderful people. Thank you all!

My son had adenoid and tonsil removal surgery. Our experience was excellent. The staff were amazing. Everything explained to us and child care was the best! Our nurse Pippa was perfect.
The food was excellent, either proper dishes and cutlery, very good presentation, huge thanks to the catering team. Super clean facility.
Highly recommend this hospital for pediatric medicine.

I had a fantastic experience of being treated at the Portland Hospital. All of the staff from the matrons, chaperones, nurses, anaesthetist and consultant were kind caring and gave me all the time I needed to feel safe and calm. I had a lot of privacy but could always ask for help if needed, the nurses provided great company when I was bored and the food was delicious too!

Had a morning procedure for my son, met by smiley very welcoming staff. We were taken care of by nurse Alice or Alison. Dr Eltumi & the anaesthetists were reassuring about the procedure.
Everything from start to finish was accommodating and well managed.
Hospital Hotel - had a bed to relax myself which was well needed as I was up very early.
Nice lunch - my son enjoyed his pizza and sweet potato fries. I enjoyed my biryani - I would add a bit more spice to my dish - that’s personal preference.

Thank God the Portland hospital exists. I am infinitely grateful I could bring my child there for an urgent blood test, which took place on the very same day I arrived — in Southend the waiting time for an urgent blood test was minimum 2 weeks... Thank you Portland Hospital. I am much obliged. You rock.

Lovely and well-regarded hospital, but its logistics issues on Hallam Street need a rethink, as these damages the quality neighbourhood.
