I received CBT over the phone, and the lack of face to face communication made the therapy extremely difficult and ineffective. I was receiving this therapy to cope with anxiety and self harming habits but was treated with the attitude of ‘not being bad enough’. The person I worked with over the phone would compare my experience to her own previous experiences in life, which I found to be unprofessional and belittling. My emails, in which I complained and said I would not like to go further with the CBT, were not responded to until two months later. Overall, the service was personally unhelpful and I wouldn’t recommend.

Only dropping a star as it was a bit difficult to contact this service in the beginning. I emailed them saying I was struggling to get hold of them as I was at work and they replied super quick saying they'd phone once I was home from work at the time I gave them. They phoned bang on time and I had an assessment phone call set the week after.
The assessment phone call was around 45-50 mins long, the doctor was really nice and reassuring, she gave me plenty of options on the next steps and listened to my worries about group sessions so she booked me in for some 1-1 work.
Also the receptionist that called me to set up the assessment was so lovely and understanding too.

Was advised by Lauren that suicidal thoughts were normal and Rousi that my goals weren’t good enough for CBT as they were things like “just going for a walk”. Asked for clarification on what the goals should look like only to be told that I needed to think about what I wanted (I had, and they weren’t good enough apparently). Practitioner refused to end phone call when asked and I had to ask repeatedly for complaints phone number even though they offered to give it to me.

I never leave reviews for things but I feel I actually need to leave this review because there is a serious problem with this service. As the other reviews have said, I feel completely failed by Steps to Wellbeing.

I was referred to the service by a Psychiatrist in Poole, went through the initial contact with them and did everything they asked. Was awaiting them to call me to arrange a first appointment and heard nothing. Tried calling quite a few times on different days and could only ever get the answering machine.

I then had an email come through saying that as I haven't made contact they were taking me off their books and referring me back to my GP.

I don't know what's going on with this service but someone needs to look into it ASAP. Government funding seems to be going to a service that apparently doesn't even exist?

I could be wrong, but hopefully someone sees all these reviews and implements some drastic changes.

Unfortunately I have no idea what their services are really like. I had a telephone assessment in February I believe and CBT was recommended. I was told there was approx a 10 week wait for treatment. I received a voicemail in April to book an appointment for my treatment, and since then, every single time I call, it goes to voicemail. For people who work full time and cannot answer calls during the day except for their lunch break, this is useless. We have been leaving voicemails for eachother for months. I have tried calling at various times of the day, even taking time out of work to call. Voicemail each time. Their opening hours are 8:30 to 5:30. They clearly need more staff as its not good enough. I'm sure everyone working there does a great job, but I haven't been able to actually have treatment to find out. I'm sure lots of people would just give up and forego treatment which is so dangerous. Please just get more staff to answer your phones.

Since leaving the Army I was basically pushed to one side until I got to the stage of feeling what's the point. This is when I approached them and since then my mental health has blossomed. I know most Veterans have got lots of help well that's really not true. I have many friends and colleagues who have committed suicide because they didnt get the help that I am. With out Steps to Wellbeing maybe my name would of been put on that list!!

I have just finished my 1 to 1 phone sessions with Matt Brown. I have anxiety and depression. Matt was very helpful, honest and open which encouraged me to be the same. I am very happy with my current situation and will be continuing my therapy with group sessions. Thanks Matt and thanks Steps 2 Wellbeing

Just had a 1 1/2 hour telephone session with Sophie. She was so professional, caring and remembered everything I had said, even though I had to get her to call me back because of a Drs appointment. I feel positive that this organisation is going to help me through this difficult time. So far...highly recommended!
