This place is barely worth the one star I was forced to give! Controlling and coercive and lead you into an intervention often physical when you are seeing a peaceful resolution or trying to ask for help!
I am a Royal Marines Veteran that was born and raised on the area and frankly feel disgusted about how much of a negative impact this service has had on my life! A Shame as it's a lovely site with spectacular grounds close to the sea but the whole system is sadly far out of touch of reality, I find it shocking and actually would go as far as say that they make people worse and offer little to no opportunity for further progression reintroduction into society. Something wrong with this postcode imo...Thank god I got my lot to support me ?

They are very racist and very rude.
They injected me with an antipsychotic depot three times during about 11 years. First they injected me for 1 year and half(actually 65 weeks)with highest dose(paliperidon 150(8months)30 hours akatisia side effect per week-50mg) and after 1 year that they stop it, they inject me again with middle dose of Clopixol(300mg weekly(2months)-250mg fortnightly) for up to 44 weeks, 12 to 4/5 hours akatisia side effect per week. And 6 months after they stop it again they inject me with Clopixol depot with lowest dose, 200mg 9 weeks(weekly) which I had average 6 hours Akatisia(acute restlessness) side effect per week-and then reduce it every 6 months by second opinion doctor certificate which I received-175mg 6 months weekly-200mg fortnightly-175mg fortnightly-175mg every 3 week which I have 1 hour and half akatisia side effect per week(average) but they say that they are injecting me 500mg Clopixol every three week which is not true, 175mg every four weeks-150mg 4 weekly-125mg 4 weekly and I 5 times admitted to hospital and longest stay in hospital was 7 months which in first 5 months not fresh air out of hospital even (and also I received olanzapine injection voluntarily 5 weeks highest dose before Paliperidon injection and 5 days daily middle dose haloperadol injection) and 3 times in seclusion and longest for 7 days and ECT is not there and I should be stay on injection for third time for up to 191 weeks on lowest dosage and after that my injection will be stop for ever.

I was kept in St Anne's for 2 1/2 years in 2016. I left with more issues than I went in with! I was Pinned down many times and forcefully medicated, when that didn't help I was forced to have ECT against my will. A team of staff would come into my room twice a week. Grab me out of bed, drag me down the corridor kicking and screaming, into the ECT department, Pinned me down on the bed and forced anesthetic into me. They did this for two cycles. I begged them to stop it wasn't working and just made me physically ill. The psychiatrist just smiled at me and said " you are under section 3 we can do what we want to you"
Some of the staff where so unprofessional and I hate to say what the other evil psychiatrists did to me. Eventually they just discharged me when the powers that be said I had been there to long.
Although support in the community is pretty non existed so really what chance do I have.

The medical team at this hospital are ace buck passers. The main strategy appears to be to stop mentally sick patients accessing any hospital care. Evidently all beds are full and there is even a waiting list for access. So the plan is clearly to keep as many people as possible in care in the community. The only problem is there is no care in the community! So families are just supposed to find their own solutions. This view is based on personal experience of trying to get my son-in-law treatment for a severe psychotic condition over the last four weeks. There is no communication and home appointments and commitments made are just ignored by staff. This is a mental health service unfit for purpose. I note it has not had a recent inspection by the CQC. The Director of Dorset Mental Health should be ashamed of himself.

To revise my original review, St Ann's is paradise compared with many other mental hospitals. Currently placed in a private "rehab" in Woking, but it's awful - utterly incompetent staff, and far more restrictions than in St Ann's even though it's just supposed to be rehab. The culture in St Ann's has grown to one of kindness and proper deescalation. Many beautiful people. Here people get threatedv with restraint and "forced treatment" for the slightest thing and the staff are prejudiced completely. St Ann's may not yet be perfect but it's heading that way people just need to appreciate what's there and take a walk in the beautiful grounds or look at the sea a while - a therapy in itself that should be promoted more. It's far from being "the worst place on earth" and I'm hoping to return.

Being a patient in St. Ann's has enlightened me to a new persperctive of my life. To accept that mental health is important. To realise the value of family. To have a better perspective of caring. To enjoy nature and all of its beauty.

The staff have been extremely helpful and they encourage you independence so when you are ready to go to the world. You start or go back to your work life but with more to contribute to the community.
