I had my spinal surgery done at Spire South Bank Hospital. I am a terrible patient and was terrified of the operation I required. From start to finish I could not of wished for better service. Mr Grainger, my spinal surgeon, was absolutely incredible and made me feel at ease from our first meeting. Now, my surgery was done about 9 years ago, with no guarantees that my back would ever be 100%. Well all these years later my back and spine are still in great condition and I am pain free still.
My Partner is now having to undergo major surgery here. Both knees and both hips need to be replaced. So far all the consultations have been of an excellent standard and all staff have been nothing more than superb and professional. This afternoon we will find out what their plan of action is going to be for the hip and knee replacements she requires and what time spans the procedures will be carried out over. We both feel at ease with their service and know how professional they all are at Spire South Bank. Praise to them. We will post again when we know more about her surgery and after the first part of knee and hip replacements.

From being a little nervous I was put at ease very quickly.
The consultant explained everything brilliantly and used his drawings to explain everything. The consultants team were amazing and explained everything with care just as if I was the first person they had seen that afternoon.
The procedure from start to finish was all efficient and I felt very much looked after by the nurses.
The cup of tea and biscuits were the icing on the cake.
Thank you for looking after me, you didn’t know how nervous I was but you all made
Those nerves disappear 😊

I’m sure the medical care is fine but the admin awful.. appointment email was sent but no record of it at the hospital so sent away again. And today my wife has tried to phone to find out how I am and just got a monotone auto response which assured her every ten seconds that the call was important and would be answered shortly. She gave up after fifteen minutes of this..

Excellent care and treatment at Spire Worcester South Bank - staff were friendly, efficient, welcoming and the environment and room was great. Everything was clean and organised and on time. The aftercare was superb as were the meals and discharge. Andrea my aftercare nurse was an angel and nothing was too much trouble - can’t recommend highly enough.

This hospital, and Spire Healthcare in general, suffers from TWD Syndrome.
Tail Wags Dog Syndrome is the mistaken belief that the procedures and administration of an organisation is more important than anything else.

- I had my personal data given to a third-party organisation without my consent, despite my explicitly opting out.
- The online patient portal is completely useless. No appointments, no documents.
- I had an appointment with a consultant cancelled over the phone because it was ā€˜against Spire’s rules’. No record of the cancellation anywhere, and no letter was sent to my GP.
- I made an official complaint to Spires’ ā€˜central’ complaints office, which actually does nothing more than forward emails to the relevant hospital.
- My official complaints were ignored for months. When it was taken up, the appointed GDPR Officer for Spire appeared to do nothing about data protection.
- I had my latest appointment with the Consultant in August. I tried to book a scan for 6 months’ time and a follow-up appointment with the Consultant.
Apparently the hospital cannot book scan appointments more than three weeks in advance because they don’t have the imaging Consultant’s diary ā€˜so far in advance’, and even then they’re subject to change.
Of course, if I can’t make an appointment for a scan then I can’t make a follow up appointment with the consultant. I was told 6 months ago that, as soon as the imaging consultant had released their availability then the consultant’s booking staff would be informed and contact me to make a suitable appointment. Not surprisingly this does not happen in reality.

I don’t doubt that the medical staff are absolutely top notch, but they’re being sorely let down by the apparently chaotic and byzantine administration processes. The tail wags the dog.

Terrible communication right from the off, my partner was held onto for months without anything actually being done, just charged hundreds of pounds each time for a bit of a chat. Then after her surgery, which was painful and invasive, she was discharged the same night, despite paying thousands, and this is private care? When you've spent that amount you expect to be treated much better, not treated like an inconvenience by the one nurse going around moaning because you need assistance. Stick to the NHS, the result will be the same, but at least you'll save a few quid.

Looks a bit tired for a private hospital, had a private gynae appointment there for Ā£250 didn’t learn as much as I’d hoped and referred back to NHS. The wait for an appointment was actually longer than NHS. Super kind nursing staff and reception, had a courtesy call to follow up which was nice.
