What an amazing place! I had surgery and the whole experience was amazing. The room was lovely and clean. The staff were so thorough and attentive. Everything was explained so clearly. They came and checked me frequently and made sure I was comfortable. The aftercare instructions were explained really well. They allowed my husband to stay with me at night and provided the bed and food to him also. My whole experience was amazing.

Had a Variocele Embolisation completed at Hartswood on a Tuesday evening. Originally booked for 1830, brought forward to 1700. 2 hour delay due to overrun saw the procedure start later than previously booked. I fully appreciate that things can overrun and would want whatever time was required for my own healthcare.

The theatre team lead by Dr Imram Syed were stirling in their care, compassion & professionalism. The support staff on hand offered plenty of cold compress and reassurance throughout the operation.

Upon being wheeled out of the theatre I had the good fortune to meet Reece and had an enjoyable chat with him which put me at ease.

Discharge process was lengthy but I understand the need for precision and thorough notes prior to departure. The private room I was allocated was smart, clean & spacious with a decent wrap & crisps meal.

My wife and I had a consultation with Mr Gittos yesterday regarding my wife’s breast cancer, forthcoming chemotherapy treatment and surgery. He was so informative, reassuring and kind. He has operated on my wife in the past, so it was not the first time we have met him but every time we see him it is clear that he genuinely cares about his patients, not only professionally but also on a personal level. We would certainly recommend him most highly.
We also found Frances, his secretary, and other members of staff to be extremely helpful, understanding and a pleasure to deal with.

I booked an appointment(for a months time) with a urogynecologist online and paid 220 for it. 20 days later(a week before said appointment) I received a phone call telling me the appointment had been cancelled by the system and that I had to rebook it for two weeks later. I assume I couldn't have the original appointment, because it was given to someone else. Why they didn't have to reschedule and I did, I don't know.(This just seems unfair and not right, I booked first so they should have to reschedule). I was then told I could book with someone else, which I said I didn't really want to do. The person I spoke with said they could send me an email with information about other available gynaecologists. I said okay. 4 days later I still have not received an email. I then called again and told them I was upset and it wasn't right. They told me all they could do was book me in with someone else. I agreed to it despite not really wanting to, because I am in so much pain and desperately want help.

All in all, I wouldn't recommend booking an appointment here. Save yourself the trouble and the heartache, and go somewhere else that will treat you fairly and try harder to rectify the problems they created.

Quite possibly the worst customer service I have received in years! Booked and paid for a £200 Consultation, had appointment and heard nothing for over TWO months. Tried calling hospital to complain but I cant make a complaint on the phone, only by email. I make complaint by email, then get a phone call from a Patient Experience Team advisor , who sends an email to tell me they will investigate the very next day (without their name on it). Two weeks later still waiting. In addition, their call center says they don't have a Head Office line and their CEO Justin Ash - Doesn't accept calls?! Their website advises you to contact the ombudsman, but this is misleading as you need to contact ISCAS. What a shame of a company. They make the NHS look like a 6 star health service provider! Hang your head in shame Mr.Ash, you company is unprofessional and your procedure are archaic and not built to service the patient but obviously you shareholders!

My review relates to the anaesthetist Dr. Karunaratne.
I had surgery at Spire Hartswood Hospital Brentwood on the 30th of September 2024. I was scheduled to have my procedure at 16:30, so I arrived at the hospital at 15:30. I did not have any food since 10AM that morning and no water for 2 hours before arriving at the hospital.
The surgeon arrived around 17:45 and was ready to start the procedure immediately, but the anaesthetist Dr. Karunaratne was not there. The anaesthetist arrived at the hospital at 19:00, 2 hours and half after the procedure was scheduled.
Of course I was not the only person waiting to have surgery, there were other people that arrived before me that needed the anaesthetist, so Dr. Karunaratne was in very high demand when he got to the hospital, presumably rushing from one operating room to another to perform the anaesthesia.
I was taken into the operating room around 19:30.
I could see the great rush in Dr. Karunaratne, he inserted the canula needle very rushed that caused a feeling of electricity inside my left hand and arm, and he pushed the fluid inside the vein with great force. Both his actions caused me so much pain the I screamed out. I felt the electricity in my arm and asked him to slow down with the fluid because I am in pain and it feels very weird, but he continued to push the fluid very hard inside my vein. I had enough time to say out loud that what I was feeling has never happened before and that it hurts very bad. I heard back the word that I should relax.
Of course in a few moments I was under sedation so I could not express my feelings further and explain to them what happened.
After having continuous pain and electricity in my left hand and arm for more than 1 week after the procedure, I had to go see several doctors to find out what is going on.
I cannot use my left hand properly even today, 17 days after the procedure.
It turns out that Dr. Karunaratne caused peripheral nerve injury in my left hand that extends to my arm. This damage might be permanent and needs a lot treatment.
I cannot be sure what caused the peripheral nerve injury, the way he inserted the canula or the great force applied when pushing the fluid inside the vein. What is for sure is that I am not able to use my left hand because of the actions of Dr. Karunaratne that arrived extremely late for my procedure and was rushing from one operating room to another.
I would like to point out out that I paid £4425 for a simple procedure and I got out with peripheral nerve injury inn my left hand and arm.
This kind of treatment should never be expected from any Doctor anywhere, but especially not when paying a lot of money in order to receive better care.
I hope Spire Healthcare will take action.
The picture I attached shows the bruise from cannulation a week after the procedure.
