Unfortunately, I was unable to get an appointment for over a week despite trying multiple times. I appreciate that this is not the fault of individual staff members and that the NHS is under immense pressure. However, I did feel that a bit more compassion and understanding from the reception team would have made a big difference.

What I found particularly frustrating was the lack of an option to pre-book appointments for non-urgent issues. Being told to call back the next day - only to face the same situation repeatedly - felt both disheartening and unfair. It’s a system that leaves many patients stuck in a loop without resolution.

I’ve now registered with a new surgery, but I felt it was important to share this feedback in the hope that it might support improvements for others in future.

Terrible Service – Avoid If Possible!

I’ve had multiple bad experiences with Shotton Lane Surgery. Booking an appointment is nearly impossible, and when you finally get one, you’re either waiting forever or dealing with rude and unhelpful staff. Booking an appointment is a nightmare, and even when I do manage to get one, they often “can’t find” my appointment when I arrive. This has happened more than once, and it’s beyond frustrating.

The reception staff are rude and unhelpful, and calling to pick up prescriptions is just as bad—half the time, my prescription isn’t even there, even though I was told it would be. The lack of organization and care for patients is shocking.

On top of all this, the doctors rush through appointments, don’t seem to listen, and the whole place feels like they just want to get rid of you as fast as possible.

If you’re looking for a surgery that actually cares, I strongly recommend going elsewhere. This place needs serious improvement.

Joined this surgery 3 months ago and they still haven’t been able to access my health records, leaving me without medication. They only open during working hours so impossible to use the service if you have a job. I had to take the morning off work to attend an appointment and left 40 minutes after my appointment time as I had still not been seen.

Dr. Douglas, Dr Murphy, Karen (Practice Manager) and reception staff incredibly supportive and professional. The 1 Star is for Dr Hedges very poor standard of care, who casts a shadow over the Practice that serves our community.

Shotton Lane Surgery is hands down amazing! The receptionists are like VERY good, always help, and they make everything a easy by being suppetive. It's a whole different vibe compared to other doctor's offices, and in the best way possible. Even the GP I talked to was nice.

I’m very disappointed with the service this doctor have to offer I had an appointment booked in for 3:15 and I didn’t get seen till 4:30 by dr hedges and this is why we can’t get appointments because of how long people take he couldn’t of seen 10 people in the amount of time I’ve sat here waiting it’s not fair on me or the older people and children having to wait something needs sorting about this as it’s a joke if I’m being completely honest but apart from this staff at reception were polite and helpful not doctor so much ☹️☹️

Receptionist rude, unprofessional.
To busy chatting to each other about weekend, and making cups of tea whilst phones ringing,
Has to be the worst surgery in north wales.

I have had excellent service from Shotton lane surgery, the reception and nursing team and particularly Dr’s Burton and Hedges. I received a timely telephone consultation and within hours my prescription was ready and I had an ECG with bloods in the surgery. I received a phone call the following day with details of an emergency hospital consultation. Following an allergic reaction to the medication some days later I was able to speak to a doctor and had fresh medication prescribed all within a morning. Thank you Shotton lane surgery staff.
