Nobody really wants to end up having to come here, but if you have to it's a first class place. My wife visits the Lung Defence centre and they are superb. Very attentive nurses, Doctors who listen and are compassionate and excellent treatment options. The building itself is very well designed and fully accessible by wheelchairs etc. The main atrium is light, airy and spacious, and the main reception desk at the centre is large and well positioned. Very impressed with seating and information screens. There is also a piano which is often played by competent staff members at lunchtime, a nice addition.

Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge is truly a level above most hospitals. The staff here are amazing—efficient, friendly, and always ready to help. The doctors, especially those in the transplant centre, are top-notch and provide exceptional care.Communication with family is always available and encouraged.

The rooms are comfortable, ensuring a pleasant stay for patients. The patient waiting area is well-maintained, though the family room could use some improvements for better comfort.

While the cafeteria offers a variety of options, it is quite expensive, and I believe this needs to be addressed by the hospital management.

The reception staff are polite and welcoming, and the signage throughout the hospital is very helpful. Overall, Royal Papworth Hospital provides outstanding service and care

Top tier staff and beautiful hospital. Dylan and Tabby, Ian and Dr parker were kind, attentive, genuine and done a great job the way you expect to be treated in a hospital. Although it's relatively new it's still in great condition and very clean and tidy. Absolutely huge, high ceilings. Alot of information everywhere.
Only thing is that there could be better signage for the parking shop, where you sorting out issue with tickets etc as he's it's right as you enter the car park, but, if you have never been there and your concentrating on just trying to get in and find a space you literally drive past it as you enter through the barrier then you end up having to walk all the way back from the other side of the car park or even hospital if you missed it. Better and more obvious signs for that would be great.
Staff are attentive, so kind and helpful. Show everyone respect no matter who you are or your issue. Very knowledgeable consultants and will drop what their doing to help another staff member with a issue or patient. Really impressed with the staff and the hospital.

Dr. Muhammad Rafiq and his surgical team were phenomenal—their expertise and dedication saved my life. The Critical Care team provided incredible support during my recovery, and their care gave me so much reassurance.

I had open-heart surgery at Royal Papworth Hospital on October 25, Today marks three months since that life-changing procedure, and I feel incredibly grateful to the amazing team at the hospital

I also want to thank the Ward 3 team, where I stayed for 23 days before surgery under constant monitoring due to being at high risk. Your professionalism and kindness made a world of difference. And to the Ward 5 team, thank you for your tireless care and compassion during my recovery—it meant everything to me.

Special thanks to Dr.Densem for his exceptional consultation, guidance and care during this journey.

The staff were not only professional and caring towards me, but they also extended that same level of respect, communication, and compassion to my family members. Their excellent communication, clear explanations, and genuine care truly made a difficult time much easier for us all.

Royal Papworth Hospital is a world-class institution, and I am forever grateful to everyone who played a part in my treatment and recovery.

With heartfelt thanks,

Inpatient 2022, follow up September 2023: this is a world renowned hospital specialising in lung and heart transplants. The hospital has disabled parking outside the front and in the multi-storey car park. The hospital is very modern and very clean and very large. It has a lovely outside area near the cafe by a pond with plenty of seating. They use screens to direct you to where your appointment will be and your name shows on the screen- but they ask if you are happy for this to happen when you check in at reception and there is an option to use a pseudonym. There are lovely additions such as antique equipment/memorabilia/uniforms on display and artwork. There are casts of the surgeon’s hands who performed their first transplants too. All the staff I came into contact with were very friendly. The doctors and nurses saved my life when I was here in December.
