We had an evening meal here. The pub was quiet and had a lovely ambience. Menu was varied and the steak pie was smashing, full of steak. The veg were beautifully cooked and the jug of gravy excellent. We just had drinks and two of us had dessert which was lovely. Espresso coffee was good and not bitter

Quirky is probably the best description for this pub/hotel. The atmosphere was excellent, as we're the staff and the accommodation. However, be aware that, as quirky as the accommodation is, if you’re taller than 5’ 6” and in the upper rooms (7, 8), watch your head. That does not take away from the comforts and facilities provided. The shower (electric) in our room (7) was good with plenty of height, too. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the bar was pleasant and homely. Alongside the pup is a tap room, with a decent selection of beers and spirits, and an ice cream parlour where they serve a great selection of homemade ice creams, well worth a visit on a hot day. Highly recommended.

Arrived Friday evening, lovely welcome, very nice well furnished room, fine food, good to mix of locals and visitors. Value for money all round in a very attractive location. M6 - Not far from Penrith if travelling South or Teebay if your going to Scotland and well worth the detour.

We booked to stay in the house a few paces from the pub. On arrival the house was quite cold. It never really got to 22 degrees during our stay because even after setting the thermostat higher we suspect the heating had been low for a good while before we arrived and the house had become quite cold. The electric fire in the living room could not be used as the socket on the wall was taped up. We couldn't get hot water in the morning, probably because the boiler clock was set to the wrong time but we did manage to get a hot shower. The house decor is quite tired. The TV is old and didn't work properly. The sofas really need updating. The bathroom mirror was loosing its reflection at the top and the bathroom window didn't fit properly. The garden was quite messy in part of the property. The kitchen floor to the lounge had a bit missing at the step. We felt our stay was disappointing based on previous reviews.||The staff however were very good apart from checkout when it seemed rushed as they were cleaning the pub and I felt the lady didn't really want to talk about our issues. The pub food was good and we enjoyed our evening meal and breakfast.

Booked in for a family meal as staying local. Rang to book in advance.
Fantastic public house. Nice kind, friendly staff. Dog friendly and even a doggy menu.
The food was fantastic. Main course and dessert. It's really reasonable priced, and the quality was superb.

An absolute find! Best weekend here. Lovely people. Great feel to the place. Very dog friendly hotel, our lab loved her doggy care package & access to enclosed garden from the room. Food fab, very nice Sunday Dinner & even they even have a dog menu. Felt very well looked after and that everyone went the extra mile at every point in our stay.

Lovely stay here had two nights, great meal on the first night. Fabulous breakfast both mornings. Went for a recommended walk by member of staff lovely walk. Room clean and beds comfy. Staff were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Would stay again and have recommend.

We had a fantastic meal here! Came as a family of 5 with a dog. We sat by the bar area and the open fire was glorious. Food delicious! We ordered beef and ale pies, fish and chips, peri peri kebab and halloumi burger - everyone loved! Great service and friendly staff, would highly recommend!
