A Rewarding Place to Work with a Truly Supportive Team
Working at Red Jacket Specialist Care has been an incredibly rewarding experience. From day one, I felt welcomed by a team that genuinely cares—not just about the clients, but about each other as well. It’s rare to find a place where you feel so supported and appreciated.
As a mental health support worker, I had the chance to make a real difference in clients’ lives, which made the work deeply meaningful. The team here is compassionate and dedicated, and there’s a real sense of shared purpose that makes even the challenging days worthwhile. The leadership is approachable, always open to feedback, and committed to creating a positive environment for everyone.
I’ve learned so much here, not just about mental health care but about empathy and resilience, and I’m grateful for the experience. If you’re looking to work somewhere that values your growth and allows you to make an impact, Red Jacket is a fantastic choice.

My interview process was really enjoyable. Although we had some computer issues at the beginning. Red jacket was very responsive and found a solution quickly. My interviewer Charlotte was lovely and very informative about the organization. She really highlighted as the company is very focused on the needs of the clients and staff.

Positive. The person hosting my second-stage interview was patient and understanding when I had a technology slip-up at the start - I am grateful for her maintained proffesionalism throughout. In addition, I value the efforts made to communicate efficiently via email. I look forward to joining the company and becoming a part of their mission to provide the best care to its service users. Thank you.

My recruitment process has been quite fascinating. The interview I had with Scarlett was engaging and enjoyable. She not only asked about my experience and interests but we discussed Redjackets mode of operation, career growth and I am happy to have gotten an insight into what it is like, working with RJSC from a staff which makes me more eager to join your team, where I can hone my skills and enhance my experience.

I have been working with Red Jacket for a year now and the team have been incredibly amazing! The professionalism is top notch and the need for the management team to enrol staff in relevant training courses is highly commendable. I just recently partook in a Break Away Training organised by Sophie and Amanda, this course was very relevant to the clients I support, they both exhibited great knowledge on the subject matter and I was able to equip myself with techniques needed to safely protect myself, colleagues and clients.

I joined RJSC just over three months ago, and the training both before and after starting the job has been incredibly helpful. My team leader (Sophie Parker) has been fantastic, always quick to communicate and providing hands-on, practical training. It’s been a great experience so far!

I find it quite telling that a company whose remit is to provide care for the needy overwhelmingly has reviews from prospective employees, not from service users, their families, or experienced staff.

As the father of a young adult with profound autism under the care of Red Jackets, I can attest that they are wholly inadequate in their role as care providers.

Their staff are largely inexperienced, underqualified, and underpaid. Management is thin and yet opaque. This is despite the company declaring £200k in dividends last financial year, on top of directors' salaries, according to public records (see Companies House for more information).

One of their staff members caring for my son admitted to having no prior experience with autism, received no specific training, and had only a 40-minute shadowing session as onboarding.

Food in my son's fridge is routinely left to go off, his physical and mental health has verifiably deteriorated, and spends most of his free hours in his flat watching TV. He has a mobility car, gym membership etc, but only a small fraction of the staff can drive, cook, clean, and perform other basic support tasks.

Multiple attempts to engage with and work alongside Red Jackets have failed. Promises of shared staffing schedules, food plans, enhanced exercise routines, social group access, and improved hygiene protocols have repeatedly failed to materialize.

There is also evidence of monopolistic contractual practices enforced by this privately owned care provider. The senior care commissioner at my local council stated, "I have found that due to the current block contract RJ took out, it stipulates that other care arrangements outside of this are not permitted under this arrangement." This is despite the poor care being provided and the company's inability to pivot towards better practices.

Unfortunately, the Quality Care Commission, which should be the body to turn to for accountability, is facing severe backlogs, underfunding, and its own scandals regarding poor practices. They have been unable to help improve the situation for my son and others in similar positions.

I believe that the public's lack of strong independent bodies to turn to has allowed a culture where sub-performing companies like Red Jackets can operate with impunity.

Reader, one writes reviews like this when there are no other avenues to effect change and those in authority turn a blind eye. My wish is that other parents pay due diligence to the public funds being spent on this privately owned company, which has demonstrably underperformed, and hold decision-makers accountable for allowing such inadequate services to be provided.
