Queens Avenue Surgery - Dorchester

I used to think they were wonderful and helpful BUT now my opinion is the total opposite: I am not allowed to book a face to face appointment as I “have reached my limit” So far this year I have had 3 face to face appointments.
How long before I am allowed another?!! Disgraceful.

Had such good experience of this surgery when first moved to Dorchester. Unfortunately the lovely friendly receptionists have been replaced by people who don’t even look up to meet your eyes when you are speaking to them.

Communication is poor and erratic and the advice from GP’s is inconsistent.

The property is rather grand and there is some car parking, but is usually full. There is a memorial bench in the front of the large building which is set in a residential street.

On entry you are expected to check in with a machine rather than a person as the receptionists are too busy to talk to you. There is a waiting room with notice boards and few pictures. It lacks any sense of a warm reception.

The building has stairs and a lift to the upper floor where the nurses work and a second waiting room. This room also has notice boards and you can hear birdsong from the large trees outside which is pleasant.

As far as I am aware there are no facilities to obtain a drink of water should you arrive on a bike or on foot, so make sure you take your own.

This is not a forward thinking surgery in terms of how patients might arrive for their appointments (by bike on foot) and in my opinion there are a lot of improvements that could be made in this area.

I moved to this surgery some years ago and normally receive great support. However lately there seems to be a big miscommunication between the reception staff and doctors… the doctors seem eager to resolve and treat their patients whilst the reception team seem to have some superiority with making appointments or attending to people needs… often going against the advice of the doctors. It’s incredibly frustrating as a patient when the doctors tell you one thing and a process they want you to follow and the receptionists stop you at every level. I think perhaps the new receptionists need some guidance so hopefully this practice goes back to what it once was and not another surgery that fails their patients needs

Changed to this doctors surgery recently due to moving location. I’m so impressed by how friendly reception are and how easy it is to get through on the phone. All I hear recently is people complaining about how ‘difficult’ it is to see a GP, I have seen the GP 4 times since changing surgery, and the most I’ve waited for an appointment is 2 days (and would have probably been sooner if I hadn’t reassured reception it wasn’t urgent). I have always felt like whoever I have seen has taken their time, listened and explained and not rushed me which is very appreciated especially given the very small amount of time they are given per patient.

I have been at Queens Avenue for 5 years now and have always found the staff really friendly and helpful. I have never had trouble getting an appointment when I've needed them and my registered GP has been extremely kind, compassionate and caring. I feel I am in very safe hands!

Have been with this surgery 21 years. Doctors are very good and each one we have seen have treated us great. The only fault is that there's quite a wait to see a doctor at times. Wish they would do a day or two where you can just turn up and wait - everyone in order of arrival
