After a scary experience, feeling like I was unable to breathe, upon entering I had my heart rate taken, a very sympathetic nurse informed me my heart rate was 180! I was quickly given an ECG and bloods, then I was taken to Resuscitation to keep an eye on me. I was shaking uncontrollably from fear and was given medication to relax me. I cried and cried and a wonderful nurse in resus held my hand and promised me she wouldn’t let anything bad happen to me and that I was safe. I stayed hooked up in resus for hours to monitor my heart rate. A nurse listened to my breathing and assured me I was breathing fine. Blood tests came back negative for pre-cardiac arrest and blood clots. The wonderful nurses there made me feel so safe and reassured. I was severely dehydrated and they gave me a whole bag of saline through a drip. Turns out I have anxiety! I apologised for wasting their time and they assured me it’s never a waste of time. I was seen quickly and taken seriously and I can not be more grateful to the team that dealt with me through out the night. NHS staff are angels on earth. Thank you!!!! I left with some reassurance and a prescription for anxiety meds.

A evening trip to A&E at QEQM with a family member on Christmas eve, fairly quiet on arrival but soon got busy later, had to wait for blood test, x-ray, assessment and lastly medication, in all a 5 hour round trip...
Parking easy, but soon filled up later.
Not a local, first visit to this A&E.

The 2 stars is for the general service of A&E waiting area only. If I could give the staff 5 stars alongside this I would as, in the conditions they were working, they did their absolute best. I was admitted due to concerns for sepsis. The waiting area was full, cramped and noisy (I'm autistic so found this very difficult) and under every chair was piles of dirty cups that hadn't been cleaned away. The toilet in the waiting area was an infection waiting to happen. I was there for 11 hours in total and had time to observe. The staff were run ragged and not everyone in that waiting room was very nice about it. We were all in the same boat and the staff were not to blame. You'd have to bring me here again kicking and screaming. Yet, like I said, please don't blame the staff, there's a much bigger issue at play here.

Whilst I’m grateful to eventually get seen, 16 hours wait in A&E is utterly horrific. Staff told me 50+ hours wait over a weekend isn’t uncommon. Completely overrun and staff unable to cope with demand. People left without being seen, asking to have cannulas removed so they could get out of there. I’d slipped 2 discs in my back (the pain!) and there was no where to lie down, they wouldn’t even let me lie on the floor. One of the most miserable experiences of my life.

Visited on an urgent about a month ago. Saved my life, had amazing care and support from the nurses, it was a pain being sat down all day for my last day instead of on the bed but I understand the struggles the NHS are facing. Absolutely brilliant care from the team, Patience and Roxanne were especially amazing.

Day there on hard chairs for nearly 13 hours in an overcrowded room almost standing room only. Two toilets later only one working. Only two doctors available, it was stuffy and uncomfortable, just right to pick up germs those who had been there more than 22 hours ours were offered bland cheese sandwiches or pasta neither of which I can eat .we were discharged to return at a later date as there were no beds. When I did get appt. It was for the wrong one. So I started all over again. If I had no mobile phone I would have been in trouble. The staff were exhausted. The No Hope Service 😀

79 year old disabled mother, with limited mobility, left on a trolley in A&E for hours with no food all afternoon or evening. Hospital staff reassured me they would ensure she had food, but several hours later she still hadn't been offered any food or any pain relief. It's incredibly upsetting that basic care is so poor that not even base physiological needs are met

a great experience in A&E 3 days ago. From triage to xray, drs and staff were friendly, dedicated and kind. I felt at ease, though it took a while, from start to finish about 4 hours. Not a complaint.... Everyone did their best despite being so busy.It turned out I had a broken wrist but all in all it was a great service!
