MRI Unit - Harrow

It’s a Thursday late afternoon, 5:55 to be precise and I have just left the mri unit. This is my 3rd MRI scan I’ve taken in my adult years and only realising on my second one that I am infact extremely claustrophobic. Extremely. For those who have claustrophobia you would know how tremendously traumatising this experience can be and for those who don’t know I can only try to describe the aftermath of coming away from the ordeal. It is like being spaced out, light headed, lonely, confused feeling all at once. And that’s after the experience. Anyway I just want to say that the lady who took the procedure, in the beginning she was informative and sympathetic which I truly valued. But unfortunately at the end her patience had ran out and I felt as though I was being rushed out the department. I totally understand that they are not there to pamper or baby anyone but at the end of the day you were made aware of my claustrophobia so you know after building up the courage strength and sheer confidence you must know that my system would be, tender so to speak.
I just felt really shitty after by her. Not all the staff was like this may I add. And tbh I’m sure she’s not a bad or impatient person. I just think a little more patience and empathy could have been expressed after the ordeal. I pray the doctors find what’s wrong with me because truly I can not do this again.
I don’t know if private medical care encourages staff to have more time with claustrophobic patients but honestly experiences like these make me further lose hope in humanity and I’m not even exaggerating. The effects of everyone’s trauma is unique to them as we all feel and experience things differently.
I hope the head of department sees this and takes kind actions, going forward for people like myself and for everyone else involved.

Visited scanner B on two occasions, late evening & early morning, and both were all good. Friendly and efficient staff help make you feel comfortable, and at ease as much as possible. Scanner B is located near the A&E, and directly opposite the A&E there is APCOA parking available. Getting from the car park to the MRI unit was a particularly tricky with my walking difficulties, nearly getting hit by a car halfway over the zebra crossing, so just watch out for distracted drivers.

Sheer lack of empathy from the people that answer the phone at this Dept. I am so surprised NPH are allowing such curt and rude people to be the front facing staff. I have had three different phone calls with different members of staff and all of them as rude as the others. I hope Northwick Park Hospital HR reads these comments and acts on them.

The radiologists are very friendly and make you feel comfortable in a reasonably anxious environment.

Poor show all round, running late, no where to sit, disabled patients told to use bus shelter as waiting room and told we should be grateful it wasn't raining. Staff not the most helpful
