I had one of the worst delivery and post natal care experience.After my water broke and I went to the hospital no one checked how much I dilated .Anyway, I have been told to go home or stay alone at the ward.As I didn’t want to be alone during my labor I accepted to go home.When we arrived hospital back couple of hours later I have been told I was already passed 5 cm. 3 hours later I gave birth to my first child,thankfully, I couldn’t passed my placenta though.That is where the doctors intervened,unfortunately.They removed placenta manually and tore the vaginal wall.After removing the placenta and “be assured” that it was intact doctors left and midwives started to stitch my tears. I lost 1.5 half liters blood during this procedure( I learned this 3 days later) as it took more than one hour. I have been told that everything was ok.But I wasn’t able to walk by myself as I had terrible dizziness and tinnitus. I’ve been told I have to stay for the night so they can check my blood markers next day and I been carried with my newborn in a wheelchair(!) to the ward to stay all alone.Next day, another blood test has been carried out and after waiting for hours doctor came and after 5 minutes examination she told my Hb levels are lower thab yesterday (around 70s) and I should stay one more night so they can check next day. This same pattern took 3 days and everyday I had lower Hb levels than the day before. Foods were terrible,nothing nutritional or supportive for Iron absorption, on contrary no one cares what you eat. I was unable to walk to go to toilet or drink a glass of water as my dizziness continues. And I had to take care a newborn all alone under this circumstances( with no milk supply due to massive blood loss). It was frustrating and depressing.I was continuing to bleeding but doctors didn’t even touch me to check my uterus or see my bleeding.They just came and said you should take iron tablets and stay one more night. After the day 3 and served a moldy bread on the morning we decided to self discharge as they do nothing to change my Hb levels and care( foods and the doctors) was really terrible. Next day, midwife came to my home for routine control and took another blood sample to see my Hb levels. I got a call from hospital next day and I’ve been told to comeback to hospital because my Hb levels lower than ever,around 60s which wayy below than blood transfusion level which is 90s. I admitted to hospital after miserable 5 days and finally had my blood transfusion on that day.And I have been told to stay for the night with my baby. ( when the doctor came and explained the procedure I informed her and tried to show pictures of my really big blood clots from the day before. She didn’t bothered with the pictures and she said she has no concerns as she read my notes and they assured that my placenta was intact.)After couple of hours, I had a terrible contraction,I thought I am giving birth all over again. In the toilet, I had something hanging from my vagina which I couldn’t removed. Buzzed the button and call for a midwife who helped me to remove a piece of my placenta (!). Midwives and nurses agreed on that it was a placenta tissue. Well, I am a veterinary surgeon with a PhD degree in Veterinary Pathology.I am very well aware that what is a tissue and what is a blood clot. But apparently, doctors in this hospital and their seniors not as they tried to ensured me it was blood cloth. I had terrible contractions after passing this and actually that was my uterus shrinking its normal size which should happen soon after the delivery. As no one checked for days my uterus continued to bleeding to pass this placenta and that was the reason of my lower Hb levels day by day.Then, I had to stay one more night because they should do a scan but they don’t know when.which came “inconclusive”. Anyway terrible hospital terrible doctors terrible experience. Only good things are midwives and breastfeeding consultants who were really helpful and supportive. What an awful place. I had my third baby in this hospital and it's absolutely awful. Nettleham ward is dirty and outdated, I had a shower and the floor was covered in someone else's blood, the same in the toilets. My baby was given the incorrect birth weight as their scales don't work properly, the midwife who visited me at home said this happens so often - just buy some new scales ?. The lady doing newborn checks coughed into her hand and then touched my baby's face and mouth. Just an awful, dreary, smelly, horrible place. I asked a lady if she knew when I was being discharged and she spoke to me like a child and shouted at me. I was so taken aback by her that I started crying and she threatened to take my baby and said I clearly couldn't cope! I explained to her that the baby isn't the issue here but her attitude and the fact that she shouted at me, she then started apologising and panicking and saying she was so sorry for her behaviour. If anyone is debating giving birth here I would honestly try and find another location it was the worst experience I've ever had in what should of been a beautiful time. It had honestly traumatised me and I hope that awful woman has been given some training on how to talk to people with compassion. I was warned about how bad the aftercare was in Nettleham ward before I have birth I just wish I had of listened.

After reading some of the reviews and hearing a lot of things I was very nervous about having my baby here. But wow my experience was amazing! The staff are fantastic they do anything for you and make sure your comfort. When I went to the labour ward the staff there were fantastic as well, with how long I was in labour for they help me with everything! I ended up having an emergency c-section and finally welcoming my little girl into the world…..just wanted to say thank you to the staff and the amazing work you all do!!

Car park is always full. Wait times are a joke, two hours past appointment time! Assessment centre took 3 hours when my waters had broken. Got booked in for an induction the next day. When phoned because Labour had started, was told they were closed and had to go over an hour away when I live 10 minutes from this hospital! Was very upset I had been promised a bed and then had to go to Boston, in the dark on a rainy night! Boston was a far better hospital in the end.

Had my first baby at this hospital, some of the staff were wonderful. Only advice I'd give coming from a first time mother, as it can be a scary thing bringing up a new little human, if mothers go through C section, emergency or planned, their partners or family members should be allowed to stay! It would alleviate pressures on new mothers and staff, improve mothers stresses towards becoming a new mother. I went through postpartum depression, I believe if I had family around me at a time when I needed family most I wouldn't have had such severe baby blues. C sections are major surgery, looking after a baby first time and yourself after an op is the most challenging and stressful experience for any mother to go through, first time or anytime! I'm not alone, lots of mothers agree with me.

I have nothing to complain about. My mother is undergoing treatment, and has been hospitalized several times in the maternity ward, she has had exams, consultations. It has always been very well received, everyone with a lot of respect, affection and a lot of understanding and sympathy, even my mother not speaking English are very understandable. Gave no indication of timescales, either in my appointment letter or when I arrived. Made us wait 20 minutes past our appointment time before seeing the ultrasound tech. Was then waiting over half an hour before I was even told that I was waiting for a midwife. They did not care that I had previous arrangements that I had not cancelled as I was unaware of how long the appointment would take. Rude staff. Unhelpful attitudes. Was told to my face that they were talking about me in the staff room. Refused to let me leave even when I was in tears. Eventually got my paperwork back off them.
Took me over an hour to calm back down at home. Then got a phonecall from them trying to book me in again for next week.
They refused to give me any other day even when I told them I could not do Wednesday afternoon "because it has to be a Wednesday"

We had a baby delivered here quite recently. Nettleham Ward first for induction and then Labour Ward for the actual delivery. The staff on both wards have been absolutely amazing. My wife and my baby were well looked after. A massive thank you to all the staff, whether they are midwives, doctors and consultants.

The whole maternity department of LCH is a brilliant example of how NHS service should look and feel like.
