I recently visited this facility due to severe ear pain and requested to see a doctor or book an appointment for later. Unfortunately, my experience with two of the on-call receptionists was very disappointing. They were extremely rude and dismissive, and I felt they were being somewhat racist. Despite explaining that my ear pain was affecting my hearing, they made no effort to listen or understand what I was trying to say.

Thankfully, another receptionist who was handling appointment patients was much more understanding. She advised me to call 111 for an appointment, which I did once I got home. I was able to get a late-night appointment at 9:30 PM on the same day (Thursday evening). When I finally saw the doctor, he was excellent—very understanding and attentive to my concerns and difficulties.

While the doctor’s care was commendable, the behavior of the two on-call receptionists left me feeling deeply upset. Their attitude was unprofessional and disrespectful, especially towards someone in pain. This kind of behavior makes it hard for international patients to feel comfortable visiting the walk-in center. It was a very bad experience, and I’m hesitant about returning in the future.

We arrived 35 minutes too early for appointment which was for 10.30. Went to book in and was taken for my treatment at 10.05.
The staff were very friendly and cheerful, can't fault the service. Went to the League of Friends Cafe had drinks bought a book and jigsaw there, brilliant idea for this to be near the entrance. What a lovely hospital much nicer than the Royal at Derby.

Clinician was rude and abrupt on the phone, which made the whole situation uncomfortable. Didn’t care for my concerns and with no inkling of patient centred care. I left the call feeling frustrated and unsupported. I hope they can improve their communication skills and approach to patient care in the future

I’ve been to the theatre suite at Ilkeston twice now for two different procedures ,
The treatment and care I received was outstanding , the nurses and doctors are some of the best in the business.
I’d say I hope I don’t have to have anymore treatment but if I did , I’d be happy to come back and see the Team .

Thank you so much !

My husband attended this morning (Saturday)without an appointment with a finger injury caused by a a dog play bite caused late Friday night by an excited puppy playing tuggy.
He was seen very quickly by the senior male nurse, given blood pressure heart rate and blood oxygen checks and treated almost immediately after by a female nurse who dressed it and gave advice on after care. Senior nurse then prescribed antibiotics and gave a tetanus jab and advised that he could book through 111 if he felt the need for follow up treatment..
Really excellent all round.

Outstanding small local hospital which is a credit to the NHS, easy to get to in car or on bus. Large carpark for visitors thats just been extended. Good A and E department and no long waits to be seen. The premises are clean and tidy and staff are brilliant

My husband was sent to the Heanor ward for 2 weeks rehab having caught covid pneumonia. He has advanced Parkinsons and dementia. He'd been at the Derby Royal for 3 weeks. Ilkeston Hospital was awesome. So caring and made my life as carer so much more easy. Many, many thanks Heanor ward. Lynne James, Derby.
