The care provided to my mother (95) by Home Instead for over a year now has been excellent. The quality of the carers is first class - they are professional, caring, thoughtful and helpful, and my mother is very happy with them and the service they provide. It is a huge comfort to me to know that my mother is being looked after well and has been able to stay in her own home - something that is very important to her. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them.

The carers that come in on a daily basis to my Dad (92) are first rate. I have peace of mind that someone is seeing him on a daily basis as i live so far away. They all take great care of him and nothing seems to be too much trouble. Would highly recommend.

Home Instead were excellent when we had carers coming in twice a day. We loved the fact that the same carers came regularly, no one new came without being introduced first and they come at a set time each day (this was very important to us - we didn't want Dad going to bed at 7pm one day and maybe 9pm another day, as can happen with many agencies). The ladies are all lovely with Dad (and us!), the support from the office was excellent and they understood how challenging it is to make decisions around elderly, dementia care. I really would recommend them.
However, once we moved to live-in care things didn't go as smoothly. At first HI were excellent but, as I think it is hard to source live-in carers, we found that holiday cover sometimes meant several carers coming in, just to cover one week. We sometimes didn't know who was coming in until the night before. This is probably the same challenge for all the agencies. We found that the live-in carers wanted to chat a lot, which was understandable as Dad lived out of town and nearly all of them were without transport, but it meant we actually spent very little time speaking with Dad. Quite a few seemed to not really know how to interact well with someone with dementia.
I'd recommend that if you need live-in care, with whatever agency you go with, you have a clear, detailed written agreement of your requirements, and you know exactly what they will charge you. And be bold enough to change agencies if it is not working out.

We needed to get live in care very rapidly for my mother who has dementia. That was 10 days ago. It took one call to Home Instead, and we set up an assessment meeting with Mum the next day, and they found a brilliant carer who could also drive, all by the end of that day. The carer started 5 days ago, and my mother’s mood and demeanour have changed dramatically. She is engaged with what’s going on, and is now ringing once a day to ask how I am, rather than 20 times a day to scream at me. It’s early days of course, but so far, so very good.

The staff at Home Instead have been caring for my father for about 4 years now and I can’t speak highly enough about them. They visit him at his home on a daily basis and make sure that he is coping with his dementia and help him with daily tasks that he is no longer sure about. They also involve him in the excellent activities for dementia sufferers that Alton provides and together his two main carers have made a terrific difference to the quality of his life which I could not have managed on my own. I would highly recommend the services of Home Instead and have frequently done so since I discovered them. Thank you, all of you.

This was the second care agency we used and we definitely wished it had been our first!

The whole process of setting up care for our father at home was seamless. There was great professionalism, compassion and warmth shown by all the staff we had contact with and fantastic communication and organisation behind the scenes.

The carer arrangements were second to none with two carers appointed to cover the whole week and work side-by-side to cover absence. There was certainty in the arrangements, knowing who would be there each day, at what time and for how long. The care and companionship provided was of an extremely high standard with attention to every last detail. The carers were just the type of people you’d want to pick yourself if you could.

A plus point for us was that the laundry, general household duties and errands were undertaken by the carers. This took the pressure off us enormously. The carers were very thoughtful and proactive when it came to helping out about the house and leaving notes.

It really was our pleasure to work with such a first-class agency, the only downside being it wasn’t way long enough.
