We have stayed at country house hotels before but not like this
a National trust country house and spa that invites guest to stay in their opulent rooms and provides food and service to match. The ambience is very special. Like being welcomed by the lord of the manor to stay the weekend. Definitely worth a visit. Don’t be fooled by the 4 stars. It’s much closer to a five star hotel in terms of quality of facilities and service and the food is top notch. The sommelier has prepared a high quality wine list varied and still good value. Wines by the glass are from top quality bottles but reasonable prices. |We are used to a suite with fine decorations and finishings but our suite was more like a spin down antiques road trip. Fine 18th century furnishings and paintings to complete the ambiance. But then it is National Trust so expect the best. |Cannot fault our stay.

What a fantastic experience! We stayed in the largest suite, and it was such a memorable experience. The service is quite nice, the drinks cold and the food was delicious! We enjoyed the vast space in our room, and the chance to stay in such a beautiful historic location! We only wish we were brave enough to venture out on a walk (it was freezing!) but instead we cozied by a warm fire and supper our drinks instead! Don’t hesitate to book this fabulous retreat-

We had a fantastic stay at Hartwell House. Beautiful historic house overlooking an immense garden. Very good service and amazing food. The staff is very friendly. We also had a very relaxing time at the SPA centre with pool, sauna and Jacuzzi. For the treatments I would single out Christina for the best massage ever and Nabila for a very professionally done and relaxing facial. Both of them super kind and very experienced. Among the reception staff, I would like to mention Ben , who gave us a very good tour of the property that included various historical details. Very kind and helpful. I will be back! Lia

Sometimes you get a feeling about a place just by looking at it from afar. I'd passed Hartwell House dozens of times on the way to Oxford and always thought it looked very appealing. With my wife's birthday coming up I decided to gather the clans and give it a try. ||||From Mirella who took my booking to the smiley sommelier Pepin everyone was so friendly and welcoming. And I mustn't forget Ellie, the lovely food and beverages manager and the very attentive lady who served our breakfast. My daughter in law, who is a coeliac, was particularly impressed with the attention to detail of her dietary needs. She even had her own gluten free canapés! ||||Hartwell House is in a beautiful setting and steeped in history. My French wife was intrigued to discover that the French King Louis the 18th lived in exile at Hartwell in the early part of the 19th century. The grandchildren loved the pool and spa and the adults enjoyed the warmth of the open fires in all the comfortably furnished sitting areas. ||||I am leaving the best until last. The food was outstanding, the best we have experienced at any of the historic houses we have stayed at for this annual occasion. It was 'Michelin star' quality without the price tag. I unhesitatingly recommend Hartwell for any occasion where the best comes as standard.

Hartwell House is an absolutely gorgeous National Trust home with incredible scenery and gorgeous rooms, the kind you’re more used to seeing behind velvet ropes. The staff are very friendly and made us feel welcome straight away. The vibe is upscale but it doesn’t feel snooty or unwelcoming.

Our double room was comfortable and spacious, with a great shower and a little pull-out kitchen. We spent our afternoon in the spa, swiming in the sizeable pool and relaxing at the hot tub and steam room. A fantastic experience even if you go for just that.

The only minor letdown here is the dinner. It’s certainly tasty - my rabbit dish especially was delicious - but at £68 for two courses and £84 for three, pretty shockingly overpriced for the portion sizes. The sliver of beef wellington was particularly disappointing, as is the ice cream’s placement in the set menu, meaning you’ll need to pay £16 if you fancy a few scoops. The dining room is beautiful and the staff lovely, but it didn’t feel worth the expense. The included breakfast, however, is fantastic.

We loved Hartwell House and would absolutely return for another wander round the old rooms and a turn around the grounds. Maybe just skip dinner.

We attended the New Year's Eve house party, which included a two nights stay. Although we had been to Hartwell a couple of times before, when emerging from lockdown and subject to various restrictions, on this occasion we were able to enjoy the full experience. This was outstanding, largely due to the excellence of the staff in all areas, and the ever present management. They really care for their guests, which is becoming increasing rare today. Nothing was too much trouble. A special thanks to the attentive sommelier Pepin, and all the staff who served us. We look forward to our next visit.

What a place! This hotel is simply beautiful. The history is fanatic and the staff are able to share so much to enhance your staff. The food and service was first class. We held a private party for a work event and it was perfect.||A bridgerton themed lunch, drinks in the library, walks in the grounds, a 1920s themed party and dinner and over night stay. Our guests were blown away and the staff truly made our stay.

Set in beautiful grounds, Hartwell House is a unique hotel. Steeped in history we felt as if we had stepped into a Jane Austin novel.
The house is beautifully restored and filled with antiquities. We loved being able to relax in its library after dinner.
The spa is in a separate building and quite fabulous with a good sized pool with jacuzzi.
The views from our 2nd floor bedroom were stunning and our room extremely spacious, even though it was not one of their premium rooms.
We had afternoon tea and dinner and both were served with attention to detail and with elegant silver service.
The food was beautifully presented and delicious.
The service we experienced was friendly and professional. We felt very well looked after.
