I have been with this practice for around 18 years and in that time I have seen it go from bad to worse to absolutely unusable. If you are thinking about signing up to this GP, DON'T. It is almost impossible to contact them as now, if you phone them or walk in, they will simply tell you to submit an e-consultation on their website. Only problem is that their online consultation form is absolutely terrible and completely unfit for purpose. There are no options for if you just want to book a consultation for an existing issue, say high blood pressure, you are forced to select at least one symptom that is currently ailing you, even if you do not have any and then have to answer upwards of 20 questions afterwards on the specifics of whatever symptoms you have just submitted. Bear in mind this is THE OFFICIAL RECOMMENDATION from the GP staff themselves as I called them back afterwards and told them that I was unable to submit a consultation for my specific issue because it wasn't listed on the website. They then proceeded to walk me through the exact same steps I had just been through until we got to the part where it asked me about my symptoms, of which there are none for my specific issue, and then I was told to just pick any of them before being redirected to the same long series of irrelevant questions which I read out in full, every single one, to get the point across as to how useless and unhelpful this system is and only then did they FINALLY let me submit a consultation over the phone.

I will be seeking to change my GP practice after this experience, this is the final straw. This place needs to be entirely rebuilt from the ground up and have its working practices entirely re-written else it will remain almost completely unusable for any that are still signed up to it. I dread to think what the experience must be like for elderly people who already find the internet difficult to navigate.
I would give negative stars if I could. I reiterate, DO NOT SIGN UP HERE.

Absolutely atrocious service. Can’t get past the receptionist who outright lies about completing referrals and sending emails. This is also the only surgery I know where medically ill people have to attend the surgery to request their repeat prescription every month. Never known anything like it, I would avoid like the plague!

It is no surprise this practice has recently been voted the worst practice in Islington.

I have been registered for 16 years and it used to be terrific. It was then taken over by a large conglomerate and it’s now beyond awful. Getting an appointment is almost impossible. Trying to have any meaningful communication isn’t possible. I have to regularly request life saving prescription medication for my son’s severe allergy and - thanks to the maddening layers of admin and bureaucracy- it is a battle every time. The reception team are unqualified and unhelpful - human versions of computer says no.

I’ve tried complaining to them but complaints aren’t dealt with and certainly don’t result in any change.

If you get to see a qualified doctor or a nurse then lucky you - they’re all great. But the chance of that and the hoops you have to jump through to get that are frankly ridiculous.

Until this practice is under new management avoid at all costs.

UPDATE - this practice is now under new management and inexplicably they've become even worse! Don't even think about registering here.

After spending almost two hours calling, going in person, front desk was not helpful at all. Kept directing me to a link that was equally unhelpful. Quite unfortunate, no one else was physically in the practice at the time and still didn't get adequate attention and consideration..not sure if sometimes people forget that if someone is coming to a GP its because they need help, some courtesy and support would've been appreciated. To the lady at the front desk on July 22 at 1pm, i wish you much better care and consideration should you ever need it.

It is almost impossible to get an appointment. Online consultations via the Dr IQ app open at 8am but are full by 8:03. I have been trying all week to get an appointment without any luck. And when you do get an appointment, you are rarely able to see a GP. Such a frustrating experience, especially as it used to be so much easier to get an appointment and has gone steeply downhill over the past couple of years. And if you try to call in the morning you are put in a queue of over 30 people.

Hanley Road Practice has been my GP for a couple of years and I’ve had nothing but positive experiences every time I’ve visited. The reception staff are friendly and helpful. And the GPs have always provided excellent care in all the appointments I’ve had. I really can’t understand some of the 1 star reviews here as I’ve had totally the opposite experience.

This is the worst GP practice experience I've ever seen.

In order to get an appointment, you must call them at 8am and wait for at least 40 minutes in a queue. The reception staff is extremely rude, they don't care about resolving any problem for you. They also seem to have issues with hearing or understanding what you are saying. It is extremely difficult to get an appointment, as they all seem to be booked up right after the practice opens.

Today I was also refused a phone consultation appointment by the member of reception staff for a genuine health issue after a 40 mins wait.
