I understand this is a very busy service and I appreciate the hard work that goes in to it but I find some of the receptionists to be incredibly rude and insensitive. Not all, but I have come across more than one!

I have been with this practice for about 3 years now, I have to say I have had nothing but good experience, every member of staff has been polite and helpful, I can only speak as I find.

Hamdon Medical Centre… where do I start? An absolute disgrace!! The receptionists are atrocious with their behaviour and lack of empathy towards patients who are in serious need. I was told I would have a telephone appointment at 4:30pm and still haven’t heard a thing (over an hour later!). To ring up to chase before close, and I am position 1 for over 20 minutes! Are these people actually doing their jobs properly? Shocking!!

Don't understand what has happened to this practise. The G.P. themselves are not to blame. It is just impossible to make an appointment. The Anima system is very unuser friendly. I've been caller number one in the queue, holding for over 25 minutes, as I write this. Noone answering. Patients are trying to contact because they are unwell, and give up, the system at this practise is greatly adding to unprecedented stress levels. Would never re commend to anyone.

One star too many. I know the NHS is in turmoil, but the service here doesn't function at all. I have left messages on askmyGP and phoned the surgery multiple times in the last few weeks since I first logged my request. My request was apparently put down as urgent, yet I have still had no contact from a clinician. It makes you feel like you're going mad, to be gaslit by a uneducated receptionist when you ring up to explain how difficult things are for you, telling you that people they can't see your requests anywhere. To be ignored by the service that exists above any other to support people's health and wellbeing must compound issues for anyone already struggling with a health issue.

One star is too much.

The doctors do not write everything you have reported to them in your appointments, they are rude, and clearly do not care for their patients as they just see us as numbers; they just want to get you out of there as quickly as possible.

Above all, however, the reception staff is the absolute worst at this surgery!
I have never, ever experienced such rude staff at a GP surgery and that is saying something because GP receptionists already have quite a bad reputation nationwide as it is. My advice to the receptionists at Hamdon Medical Centre is, if you do not like your job, quit. Stop treating patients like they are worthless, stop with the patronising, stop with the aggressive tones, just stop. You are a huge part of the reason people do not like calling their doctors because we have to talk to people like you first! You have absolutely ZERO empathy for the patients calling and you could be talking to someone who is on the verge of suicide and the way you treat them may put them off reaching out for further help. And I say this out of experience, I am just incredibly lucky that I have people around me who were able to support me during that terrible time - I dread to think what would have happened if I didn't have that support. And now, after months of recovering, I am at the stage where I am ready to reach out to get professional help again. I was feeling so proud of myself for feeling ready, for dialling, for calling, and for speaking but the moment I began to talk I got rudely interrupted, spoken to in a demeaning manner, once again and made to feel like I was wrong to call.
How dare you? How dare you even apply for such a role, knowing you have absolutely no clue about how to treat people with compassion and respect? How dare you sit behind a desk and go about your day thinking you are doing everything right in your job? How dare you look a patient in the eyes and truly believe that your treatment towards them, your harsh manner and your incredibly arrogant attitude, is right? I bet you go home telling your friends and family how proud you are working for the NHS because you feel like you are giving back, right? Do you feel like you are contributing to society? Making a real difference to the world because you work for the NHS as a receptionist at Hamdon Medical Centre, bet you feel that you're such a big part of it, don't you? Well I can tell you now, you're not. You're a tiny-weeny, little, minuscule, microscopic part of it. Smaller than a grain of salt but saltier than the ocean. And until you start treating your patients correctly, you'll remain just as inadequate.
I suggest that if you're just after the NHS pension and Blue Light card, get yourselves a non-patient-facing role in an office somewhere - maybe payroll or something - you clearly do not want to deal with us and we certainly do not want to deal with you either so do us all a favour and leave.

Suggestion to Hamdon Medical Centre: Hire nicer staff and train them to have a patient-centred approach.

Where to start. rude receptionists with terrible attitudes.
Three day wait for an appointment for my 4 year old daughter which I had to fight for, multiple phone calls and insisting that she couldn't be diagnosed over the phone.
Incorrect medication prescribed and prescriptions not being sent across to the pharmacy when I had been assured they had been.
I dread having to contact the surgery I really do, it's gotten much worse since being taken over by Symphony.
Avoid if you're lucky enough for that to be an option.

locums tend to be better as they don’t have the same pressures as resident gps and work with fresh eyes Doctor Solomon amazing GP direct informative and reassuring and has a genuine caring attitude and Sam Dodd one of the manager lady’s again really good! I was having a panic attack the receptionist at the time who has now left was awful dealing with me but Sam Dodd amazing so calm and in charge and put me at ease she is so good I hope symphony recognise people like Sam because when it’s gets a bit tough it’s people with her attitude and kindness that really makes a difference and Sam saved doctors time! Made me feel better! She just proved especially for MH you don’t necessarily have to be clinical trained to help just got to be calm and in charge and kind she is a star ⭐️
