Nice looking hall apart from the sound limiter which means any party you have someone will complain about the noise level or the electric goes off when it reaches a certain level! Not very practical especially for kids parties!

On 21st August 2023 I contacted the venue through the enquiries email and booked myself on their calendar after registering with their booking system online. They had availability.
To confirm this date nobody got in touch with me and 3 weeks had passed. So I took it upon myself to contact them again and mentioned how unprofessional it was to not get in touch after so long. After this email I got a call and I spoke to the volunteer worker (Y) who deals with the bookings. She asked me to complete a form and I did this right away. We arranged to meet on 6th October. She also mentioned that they do allow people to have events if they are out of the 3 mile catchment. She said it wasn’t up to her but was up to the chair (N) to decide this. She said people have had wedding/ mehndi events in there. Mehndi events are usually held by the asian communities and I highly doubt there’s alot of Asians in the dickens heath area probably very few to be honest.
The volunteer worker (Y) then decided to email me at 10.15pm in the night telling me she is unable to attend this meeting as “something came up”. Luckily I checked this email the night before or I would have woken up getting ready to go to the venue. I wasn’t happy about this and was a little frustrated as it already had been a month since my request. I called her straight after. During this call she also reminded me “I don’t have to answer this call at this time and I’m doing you a favour as you’re out of the 3 mile catchment’ which was quite rude. Despite this we arranged to meet on 9th October.
I attended this meeting and with the interaction we had I felt it went well. She was telling me where everything could go such as bouncy castle food entertainer etc. we had a pleasant conversation and we would have happily followed the rules and regulations put in place. Before we left I asked them how long it would take to confirm this booking. She said a few days to a week. So it was the following Monday (16th)and I had heard nothing. I called her and she said the meeting didn’t take place as one of the trustees didn’t turn up to the meeting so I will get back to u at the end of the week. I then called again she said she will get back to me on Friday and she didn’t. So I had to wait a weekend as she said she doesn’t work weekends and won’t respond to emails or calls. so she finally contacted me via email on 23rd October saying the following:

‘Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate your booking due to very strong rules regarding the 3-mile radius in accordance to SMBC leasing agreement’.

- So she wasted my entire time. I waited exactly 2 months to hear this outcome. I had everything on hold for my sons 1st birthday.
- I was made to believe it is likely to go ahead but just needs to be confirmed.
- She basically implied that as it’s only voluntary work it’s not a priority to respond straight away. This is an extra thing she and her team do.
- so difficult to get hold of someone to speak to with this venue.
- the hall itself was ok however cannot open any windows in the hall and when u walk in there was a little bit of damp.
- toilets don’t look the best.
- the hall was spacious and big.
- Volunteer worker will come across nice but doesn’t know how to deal with the public.
- the chair came across stern and cold and unnapproachable.

I’m not one to leave such long reviews but it was very disheartening to wait this long to get my hopes up, let me down and not go ahead with it. So this 3 mile catchment is hardly true as she implied they have approved them in the past.

Awful. If u want this venue then I would recommend applying a year in advance. Very poorly handled. I wouldn’t recommend. They will waste ur time.

Had a lovely party here in February for my Nieces 40th birthday. However, the need to get overhead lighting and sound system as well as Internet and projector to make it a better venue and get more party bookings to get the extra star
