I’ve struggled to find a decent GP surgery in my local area, but this place is worth the extra drive. The staff are always friendly, approachable, and professional, making every visit smooth and stress-free. The doctors really take the time to listen and provide excellent care, which is hard to come by these days. It’s refreshing to finally feel confident and comfortable with the service I’m receiving.

I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at my GP surgery. I requested a prescription for my holiday, and instead of receiving the support I needed, I was met with a response that felt more focused on penalizing me for my past mistakes rather than addressing my current health needs. Yes, I have struggled with mental health issues in the past and made poor decisions, but I shouldn’t be punished every time I seek help or ask for medication. The doctor's refusal to give me enough medication for my trip felt like a judgment about my history rather than any real concern for my well-being.
What was particularly upsetting was that at no point did the GP ask about my current mental state or well-being. There was no attempt to understand how I was feeling or whether I was coping. The surgery didn’t even contact the mental health team to discuss my situation, which felt like a significant oversight, especially given my history. Instead, I had to take matters into my own hands and complain to my mental health coordinator about the treatment I received. Only when he intervened and reached out to the surgery did they decide to cover their backs and ask him to write an email.
Additionally, I was asked to email a copy of my flight ticket as part of their process, which felt unnecessary and discriminatory. It was as if they were treating me with suspicion, making the whole situation more stressful and demeaning. I felt singled out and treated with a lack of trust, as though I needed to prove my intentions just to get basic medical support for my holiday.
It was as if I was being treated as a problem to be managed rather than a person seeking care. This experience left me feeling like I was being punished for surviving, and it’s deeply hurtful. I was in bits during phone call with Karen on Thursday. I was so anxious after the phone call and I’ve been having panic attacks every time I think about the whole ordeal. I am left feeling judged, unsupported, and discriminated against — all because of my past and by the very people who I have entrusted with my well being and depend on for care and support. It has made me seriously question whether I can trust my GP to support me in the future, especially in moments of crisis. If every time I reach out for help I am left wondering how I’ll be penalized, it will only discourage me from seeking the care I need.
This situation was not only deeply upsetting, but it also showed a lack of compassion and a failure to provide appropriate, individualized care. It is disappointing to feel so disregarded, and I hope the surgery takes this feedback seriously and improves how they handle patients with complex mental health histories.
I now understand why some of my friends would refuse to go to a GP for help when they were struggling with mental health issues. They would always say they didn’t want it on their medical record, and at the time I didn’t fully understand. After this experience, I can now see exactly why they felt that way. It’s hard to trust a system that treats you with such judgment and suspicion instead of compassion and understanding.
Moving forward, I will think twice before turning to this GP surgery for mental health support, especially if I’m in crisis. The experience has left me feeling fearful that instead of getting the help I need, I’ll be made to feel worse — as though I’ll be punished for surviving. Every time I reach out, I will be left wondering how they might make life harder for me, rather than offering the support and care I desperately need.

I had the pleasure of being seen by Dr Miranda Godfrey who was the loveliest Doctor I have experienced in my 29 years with the NHS. She didn't just see me as another patient, she recognised me as a human being and had extreme empathy and care - very hard to find these days. We need more people like you! Thank you

I had both a phone and an in-person appointment with Dr. Nora Muhumed and truly appreciate the care and attention I received. She takes the time to listen, explains things clearly, and ensures that I feel heard and supported. Her professionalism, kindness, and dedication make a real difference in my healthcare experience. It is reassuring to know that my GP is approachable, thorough, and genuinely invested in my well-being. I feel confident in the care I receive and grateful to have a doctor who treats patients with such compassion and respect. Deerbrook Surgery is one of the best practices I have registered with.

I have been registered to the Deerbrook for over 3 years now, I have really been going through it with my health recently which is something I’m not really used to as I’ve been in quite good health until up till recently, Dr Haque has been an absolute God send through it all, very knowledgeable and informative, an active listener, very patient, always ensures we get down to the bottom of each issue whether that be through necessary tests or in person appointments to get a clearer understanding of what the underlying issue may be. I just want to take the time out to thank you for all that you do for all of your patients here at Deerbrook. It really doesn’t go unnoticed! It is Dr’s like you that really restore our faith in the NHS. Thank you once again Dr Haque!

The last post was absolutely right
The best surgery in the whole of South London
The staff are amazing always willing to help, take time with you on the phone seriously can hear when your at your wits end, grateful for them, grounded with life experience.
The Docs while they may take your weight into consideration, they make sure everything, every test you supposed to get they do and will get for you, thorough and gentle if the news ain’t so good.
I work for the NHS and I swear no has a good word to say about their surgery
But I do !
Amazing absolutely amaziing
Keep up the good work

This is the best doctors surgery I've ever used! All staff I've dealt with have been so helpful and friendly. Both times I've submitted an online form I've been given a telephone consultation with a doctor within hours and both times the issue has been dealt with and medication prescribed if necessary on the same day. I really can't speak highly enough of this surgery and all its staff. Special thanks to Doctor K. Abbotts who I most recently dealt with, she was extremely efficient, knowledgeable and very helpful!
