My experience of Alders is from the point of view as parent.
From the initial welcome/ show around by Phil I was immediately comforted that this would be the perfect place for my daughter to receive the care that I had hoped for. Eighteen months on and I still firmly believe this. The staff have tried hard to make the environment as safe and as stimulating as possible with regular trips out. They have taken care to address her personal needs and build up trusting relationships. By all accounts her bedroom is clean and comfortable and well maintained. I have faith in the current psychologist and psychiatrist who are committed to their work .As carers/ parents we have been included in regular care updates, family events and online training/ parent forums.
I would thoroughly recommend Alders and am grateful that my daughter has a place here.

For me, being at alders was a very up and down experience.
I arrived there in January 2018, and it was very overwhelming. But the staff made me feel welcome and guided me along with my journey every step of the way.
The majority of the staff were great. They were very supportive, helped keep us distracted and helped us with our ADL skills.
I went through intense trauma therapy, which for me helped. But after about half a year things got bad again as we didn’t really do much DBT and weren’t given enough skills to use in life after alders.
It come to a point where they were bringing patients in that clearly were not ready for rehab, and that’s where the downs were. They were very short staffed, especially on the weekend. To the point where our weekend outings were cancelled.
Some of the staff would talk about other patients behind their backs and were quite rude and had a right attitude.
And one last issue was that the nurses put all my physical health conditions down to my mental health, when in reality it was something real that I am now under specialists for!
But other than that, it was a good experience and helped me become more independent.
They encouraged me to clean my room, go out on my own using public transport (which I hated) and spend my money and time wisely.
I cannot thank alders staff enough for supporting me the way they did, through good times and bad. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be who I am today!

My best friend is currently a patient in this clinic. Since being in there, she has been bullied by certain staff members. Her rights have been completely stripped and she feels imprisoned. There is no support given towards her emotional well-being and no support given towards transitioning back into the community. I can’t wait until she’s out so I can finally get my best friend back.

I felt myself like in the prison there, even it was short visit but I didn't like it all,all doors locked no fresh air inside. I feel discomfort and a bit pressure 😕. I liked the woman ,she was secured and welcomed me,she was polite and noticed that I was nervous and tried to come me down but still the place scared me and I don't wish to anyone to get there. Be healthy and think twice

Was there for nearly two years and left January 2018, most of the staff were amazing and compassionate. On a whole my admission there changed my life. I'm very thankful for the help I received here.
