I am generally pleased with the good level of service I and my family have received at Chelston Hall surgery considering the huge demand and constant strain that all members of staff are under. I have always found the reception front line staff extremely helpful and friendly. Obviously more funding this needed for GP Surgeries to help to elevate the pressure on the doctors nurses and ancillary members of the help team . Andrew Foreman

I’m 97 years old so I’m dictating this to my daughter. I’ve been with this surgery for 20 years. I had a form that needed to be witnessed. As my doctor has known me so long my daughter contacted the surgery.
She was told we’ll get back in a couple of hours. Nothing. Three days later she rang again and I quote “ your mum’s doctor can’t use a medical appointment to witness a form”
My daughter then went to the police station and a very helpful officer said” we don’t do it but her doctor should have done this, contact them again and make it clear she doesn’t need an appointment! Just the proof of 20 years , show her passport , witness her signature.
My daughter rand but nothing … no response. We called citizens advice. They said z EXACTLY the same thing as the police.
The surgery could easily have done this.
I can’t imagine how many old persons who can’t walk or deal with this themselves can cope with losing their pensions because of chelation halls attitude.
My daughter has now spoken to AGE IK about this.
Disgraceful uncaring…

Called at 11am to avoid busy 8am calls. Wanted a GP appointment but not urgent, could wait til following week or two. Surgery could not give advanced appointments with GP. Requested a face to face with GP as was told by GP you could always request this. Surgery could not fulfil my request, system is outdated and needs reviewing. Said I needed to call at 8am daily to get a telephone appointment only. Not practical to call at 8am daily along with others who need an appointment that day! Too set in working in ways that don't work for patients!

Absolutely shocking service from this practice! I phoned the surgery at 8.30am I was 30 in the queue, waited 40 mins to finally get through to someone to be told I'd get a call back that day, phoned the surgery a couple more times as by 4.30pm had still heard nothing! Was told I would definitely get a call back! At 18.45 I'm still sat waiting and have heard nothing!!!!

In all honestly I'm tired of fighting to be taken seriously at this drs 18months for one thing no face to face, weeks for other conditions having to fight to be seen and constantly fobbed off. Massive lack of communication with refferals being done or not done and canceled without consultation from me. I just want some compassion and somone to listen but just seems they want to do anything other than help it's wait and see then we will do this then they don't drs don't seem to read the notes from previous appointments. Its all a bit of a shambles.

Poor service! Left me hanging with no follow up phone call about my results as requested by myself to the nurse when I had my blood tested. I found the results on my NHS app over a week ago but as I’m not a doctor I cannot determine if the results are good or bad! It’s not good enough to say if it’s bad the doctor will contact you as people want to be talked through their results, especially when they were put on a medication 4 months ago!! Do I stay on the medication or not? I have now moved myself and my partner to another practitioner so I can speak to someone there about my results/health.Extremely poor !

I have been a patient of this surgery for a few years. There have been occasional difficulties but nothing that was not resolved with good communication. A recent personal experience with the surgery has lead me to leave this review. I had a change in my physical health, plus a large weight loss and noted this to my GP. This was on going and after 6 weeks of samples and blood tests my GP listened and referred me on a Two Week Wait for a colonoscopy. Personally I thought I had IBS or a dairy intolerance. GP did advise it could be cancer but it could also be IBS. I waited just over 2 weeks due to Christmas and went for my colonoscopy. Sadly, it was cancer but the hospital were exceptional and I had surgery within 8 days and back home within 8 days. I fully recovered in 7 weeks. More Good news, the cancer has not spread to my lymph and I only require monitoring for 5 years and have a good chance it won't return. It was simply bad luck I developed the disease as I have a healthy lifestyle. The doctors at this surgery definitely listened and were extremely proactive, in my opinion saved my life by doing so, if it had been left it was highly likely that an obstruction would have occured. This would have been potentially life threatening, by finding the cancer early also has drastically improved my life span.

I find submitting an online triage request has been the best route for contact requesting non urgent medical support for myself and children. We have always had a response and kept updated when a practitioner will call, it has never taken longer than 3 days for a response, and appointment offer if required, personally this is an acceptable timeframe, pre COVID you could look to wait over 3 weeks to a GP for non urgent matters, though this was in Dorset not Devon. For urgent matters, I have waited on hold for a long period of time, but that is what you expect now, the GP practice supports a tremendous number of people in the community and statistically, there will be a delay. Once I have left my details with a receptionist, I have always had a call back the same day and been offered a same day appointment if I felt I have needed to see someone . The practice is always busy and the customer team endeavour to be courteous, helpful and polite when you speak to them. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and I feel I have. Thank you to everyone at the surgery who have been supportive during this experience including the receptionist team, nurses and physicians assistants.
