I was admitted to the unit with anorexia in 2017 and I believe I was there for roughly 4 months. If you have a child who is being admitted, please know they are in the safest place for them right now. The staff are beyond amazing...Sometimes they may seem overly harsh/strict but that's only when they need to be for your recovery. The reality is, they do know exactly what they are doing (I was adamant they didn't at the time however they really do).
It's such an amazing place and the people there really did save my life when I was extremely unwell. I didn't leave the unit 100% recovered and, 3 years on, I still have to work hard to keep on the right path. However, I now manage to live on my own (with my dog), work in Finance, and have gained the qualifications needed for my job, which are things nobody thought I would be able to do, given the state I was in a couple of years ago. The Dragonfly Unit stepped in when I was in such desperate need of help and they got me away from crisis point and set me on the right path to begin my recovery journey. It was an incredibly difficult and emotional time however, along with helping me towards gaining control over my eating disorder, I also learnt so much about myself and life in general whilst at the unit. The staff will always hold such an incredibly special place in my heart and I think so highly of every single one of them.
One member of staff told me on my first day 'We are like Nanny McFee...when you need us but do not want us, you must stay. But when you want us but no longer need us, you will have to go'. This sums up my admission to a tee.
I wish anyone reading this the very best in their/their loved ones journey.

Being an informal patient here isn't bad, staff are nice and very caring. Please ignore old reviews on this place (later than 2 years ago) because the unit is now a young people's mental health ward, it was an acute adult ward. The new young people's ward is very supporting and helpful.
The unit is well equipped with staff including:
•A family therapist
•A phyciartist
•An education unit to help you re-establish your connections to your school or collage and re-intergrate you into your school.
•lots of really nice staff (most of the staff are nice)
•And some lovely occupational therapists.

Awfull staff, very immature and basically lie to get there own opinion across on mental illnesses, which is a VERY dangerous practice to be involved in.
Inpatients left to roam around with nothing to do which causes them to become more and more stressed and suffer breakdowns which sometimes lead to violence and aggression. (this is the staffs fault NOT the patients)
Some of the staff have provided false accounts of aggression and blatantly lied on verbal accounts of aggression leading to very dangerous situations and making peoples illnesses worse.
Staff are rude and make ALOT of assumptions on peoples illnesses leading to a total breakdown of respect before they have even been either diagnosed correctly or the correct treatment having been given.
The building may be lovely and new and patients given their own rooms, BUT !! the staff who work here are draconian and only see it as a career step to further things rather than helping maturely and sensibly the patients they so openly neglect.
DO NOT let your loved ones go to this place, you will be letting them be open to neglect, frustration and staff who blatantly lie on patient records.

Staff are caring and sensitive to patient needs. This is a very challenging area dealing with patients who have a variety of degenerative brain diseases. Sometimes allowing patients the time and space to walk without purpose is what is required to help diffuse difficult situations built up through patient inability or frustration to communicate their needs. There are much much more worse places that your loved ones can go to than here. It is NHS staffed by trained and experienced mental health nurses and support workers who have to adhere rigorously to standards that are constantly reviewed. I would certainly bring any family member here if admission was required.
