Had our baby here on 30.08.24 by elective c section due to large guestional size. The staff (from mid wives to theatre staff) were absolutely amazing, went above and beyond. Was worried from some of the reviews I've seen on here but honestly couldn't have asked for better care from kinder people.
12 days later we came back to the children's ward do to bad jaundice levels and was admitted for treatment, again absolutely amazing staff and care! Can thank them enough

Shout out to the MRI department. Tracy and her colleague were absolutely amazing. Put me at ease straight away. It's a newer, wider, MRI machine. I last went in 2019 and couldn't go through with it as the older machine was very narrow. There is no need to feel anxious about MRI scans at Calderdale Royal anymore!

THE NHS BROKEN BEOND REPAIR.
I was taken to AE at 930Am on Friday the 13th Dec with a suspected mini stroke am 39. They offered me aspirin or clot busting but with that were is 40% of a bleed on your brain. I took the aspirin as I have 2 small children and don't want to make myself potentially worse.

I then waited in AE till 5.30PM!! To get my results from my bloods and CT Scan I'd had done at 10am.
I then had to wait a further 2hrs to be taken to a ward were I was moved twice within 24hrs.
I passed numerous test and only being allowed baby food as I still had a facial droop.
After 2 days I was sent to recovery were I thought am going to get out now.

They then told me I needed 8 tubes of bloods and am MRI done before I could leave I was told the MRI would be Monday it got to 4.45pm on Monday I asked am I still having it the head nurse who was absolutely amazing and clearly need to be running CRH she said am sorry they haven't booked you in for one and we haven't given you aspirin for the last 2 days am sorry.

Then I got a junior doctor who looked young enough to be my child made ever excuse under the sun o this isn't my ward. I said stop digging and start fixing. Within 30mins the head nurse had organized bloods and MRI I was taken down at 5.30pm they woke me at midnight to take the 8 tubes of blood she tried both arms wrist hand and even my feet. To then I got the joke you wouldn't make a good addict you have no veins they just pop.

She them told me she would be back at 6am this morning yes !!! Am writing this while am still in the hospital!!! .
I was woken at 7am for breakfast to be told I didn't need the blood taking out of my neck and they won't bother to do the tests. I said for what reason she said I don't know.

So at 9.16am am now sat waiting to talk to someone about what is wrong with my face why bloods weren't done and why things have been mised.
Has this hospital never heard of patients notes or hand overs between shifts.
All I will say is if you can afford to go private do it because the NHS hear and Huddersfield is broken and none care I haven't made a complaint to PALS as they won't do anything or care and more people take notice of review not statistics

Well it’s been a while since I last came to this hospital they dealt with my mouth x ray very quickly but this time I couldn’t get bloods done from my gp so I took a blood form to go elsewhere which I thought you were allowed to have your blood taken from any local hospital obviously for my cancer bloods I go to the LGI no issues just some waiting time I have to pre plan but today they said I was not meant to be there but I can’t wait 6 weeks so the receptionist plus nurse got me in it took 5 mins which I weren’t sure what all the fuss was about I wouldn’t just rock up & demand my bloods to be done or wait 6 weeks I am a very poorly person so it’s very important after I stood my ground mentioned my blood cancer also my diabetes they seem to prioritise me but no harm done has I weren’t jumping the queue but the hospital is very clean also very good staff that I come across obviously the parking is an issue plus the people that just rock up n there’s nothing wrong with them also smoking is vile outside the hospital like every other hospital but it should be banned from the whole ground ppl should be kicked off the premises or out of the hospital- I normally attend LGI or st James hospital I would say this is a very up to date hospital maybe in my top 5 to visit .The toilets were very clean I would say there was a need for this hospital.

Having never really spent time in hospitals until a recent bout of something serious, with all the horror stories you hear about the NHS and all, i was expecting much worse. Infact the building was kept in pristine, clean condition, i didn't have to wait long at all to be attended by the helpful and reasuring staff at A&E and the ward staff were all patient and kind. The food was fine with a decent selection and always served hot. All in all they made me feel much better about a pretty horrifying health issue (literally and figuratively). A big THANKS to all the staff.

I had a CT scan/X-ray and everything went brilliantly and perfectly also a big shout to the nurses Jam Alison & Sarah who were very helpful and caring could not of asked for anything better.

My daughter was admitted with a chest infection to the children’s ward. All the staff were amazing and as difficult as it can be, the staff made the stay as pleasant as possible. Thank you!
