When my aunt was first moved here a few years ago I was a little worried as it seemed run down, but the then-manager described a programme of building upgrades that were planned. The re-modelling swiftly took place and the results are a bright, modern, welcoming home with an en-suite wet room to each bedroom. Auntie loved her food and every meal I saw - or ate! - was hot, tasty and nourishing. The wellbeing coordinator, Charlotte, plans fun, meaningful activities for the residents to join in with if they wish. Chair yoga, balloon tennis and other games encourage active movement for mobility and balance. Group baking, painting, movie nights and such emulate hobbies and activities that residents would be familiar with to encourage memories, group discussion and fun. They throw some great birthdays - Christmas, residents birthdays, significant events like the jubilee, coronation, VE day; etc where relatives are very welcome and outside singers and entertainers are brought in. Summer garden parties and BBQs too (the gardens are small but very lovely and auntie loved being outside in the fresh air). Auntie loved birds and missed them and her garden, so the staff bought her a suction bird feeder for her bedroom window and took it in turns to top up the seed. Her room overlooked a hill where deer would come from the woods to graze and birds were plentiful. Amazing. The receptionist, Patty, is so kind and knows all the residents and their families. You don't feel like a mere visitor, you're one of the Brownscombe family. The carers and nursing staff know your relative well, are caring and spend time with them for a chat when they can. Really, can't praise them all enough! They have several members of staff who have expertise in dementia care, so your loved one doesn't have to move home if they develop it, which is so important for their mental wellbeing. My auntie passed in summer 2024, and even that was handled with care and love. They kept me fully informed, I could visit at any time and I even liased with the GP and could ask questions. After she passed and I went to clear her room, there were different members of staff bringing me tea, food and stopping for hugs, memories of auntie and kind words the whole time I was there. Obviously plan a visit to look at the facilities for your relative yourself, but I can highly recommend Brownscombe Lodge, (there are several different sections at this facility, all equally good), as my auntie was here for over two and a half years and loved it.

Mum stayed here for a three week respite. The place is clean with good facilities, in a great location. Most impressive is the attitude from the Staff who were all friendly and helpful including the Manager, Receptionist, Nurses, Carers and Cleaners. Was given really good advice when we needed it. Can't recommend highly enough.

I am a local physiotherapist and have been very impressed with the care and attention offered to the residents of Brownscombe House Nursing Home by their staff. My client recently moved to Brownscombe House and the staff have gone out of their way to ensure she has settled into her new home. Staff have been keen to work jointly with me which I am most grateful for to ensure the happiness, health and well-being of my client.

My grandmother has been with Brownscombe for a while now. I can only say great things about the home. The care staff are amazing and always eager to help residents and there family's. The manager is always friendly and helpful and never to busy for a chat if needed. The home is clean and very up-to-date the cinema room is a dream. This is a home you must visit if your looking for a friendly family oriented environment . The home is beautiful.

Clean tidy and very well lead. My mum has nothing but praise for Brownscombe it's staff and she loves the manager. She is hands on and always available and approachable. Five stars isn't enough

It looks very clean but the staff dont listen to the residents. Leaving someones catheter bag for 2 weeks when it needs changing weekly, waking them at 5am and shoving cold porridge in their face. My dad was desperate to leave. He's in a much nicer care home now and back to his old self. I am frankly disgusted at how he was treated. He gave up asking as nobody listened.

Employees are treated as objects. It saves on the number of employees on shifts at the expense of residents. You save on food, residents get scraps very often, very often food is cold, brought in too late, co-workers are told to save on everything! I do not recommend this place! All that matters is sulky managers who take the money and everything else is a pushover.
