Firstly, can I just say how incredible the team at Brown Hills have been. I was so worried having read other reviews, but everyone’s experience is personal to them. I cannot fault this centre. The care they have given my daughter has been second to none. They have been informative, patient, kind, empathetic and so very caring. Her clinical needs have always been at the forefront. They are always on the end of the phone if you need help and support. They keep in close contact. Arrange appointments to help with your daily life and always update you on blood results and are quick to action if medication needs prescribing.
Laura, Carley and Anna, I cannot thank you enough for what you have all done in the last two weeks. You listened and you heard us. Cannot thank you enough.

My 11 year was given an emergency appointment here march 2023. She was on the 1st centile. She was declared to have ARFID on our first meeting. I was signed up to receive informative emails so about this, and other, eating disorders. I finally felt supported. The relief was huge. She had blood taken. Was given at least (from memory 3 more appointments). Was told to get her to eat 5 small meals a day, with a Nesquick/dried skimmed milk powder concoction in between (how!). "Don't worry about being judged on her food any more, if she wants to eat -doesn't matter what it is- let her have it. SHE NEEDS the calories" .
May 2023 - "We've taken things into account, and we're going to discharge her. She doesn't have ARFID. It's just picky eating".
Fast forward to now, 2025. (I still believe she has ARFID - because she perfectly fits the description in the emails they sent.) But her eating is terrible, worse than 2023, and I believe her situation has been compounded by Brownhill's instructions. We have no support. I'm so angry and disappointed in their service I can barely find the words.

I’d like to share my on going experience with Brownhills Centre
I’ve been in their care for just over 9 months, throughout these 9 months I feel like I haven’t been getting the correct care, Lied, misinformed, and the communication between staff and GP’s are ridiculous.
I have what’s known as ARFID [avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder] and Autism. They refused to put a label on it when I was first put in their care.
The first 7 months of their so called care was nothing but “drink at least 2 Fortisips a day and try eat on top” no meal plan, no information about the food intakes and how to improve it. Nothing!
My weight was dropping drastically, I felt so full of the Fortisips and my food intakes were lower because of them.
Eventually they admitted me into hospital the day after they said “we are not planning to admit you into hospital as we will put you on a medication that may help”.
I had a blood test done at my local GP and they said my potassium levels were a little bit low but it’s nothing that concerns them just add things like bananas, spinach etc and they should level out. When Brownhills got the results they panicked and made it out like a big deal and admitted me into hospital. Till this day I don’t understand how there had been a massive change between a GPs perspective and a clinicians perspective.
Now, considering that I have Autism hospitals are a no go zone for me. But, I got correct care, a meal plan, support and education about my eating disorder which I never got from Brownhills. I spent 17 days there because they decided to get my BMI levels up a bit after my blood levels stabled.
Brownhills did not like that and wanted me to stay there for another 2 weeks. My mum was not happy with this and as you can imagine, neither was I.
The nurses and doctors at the hospital including the dietitian, mental health professionals, Autism liaison staff agreed that I could be discharged as it wasn’t fair to keep me in such a stressful environment.
Not even 24 hours after being home I got a phone call from one of the clinicians at Brownhills discussing I should be into an Eating Disorder Hospital instead. Again I was not happy with this discussion as ARFID does not fall under the category of anorexia, bulimia or any other disorder as I specifically avoid being physically ill.
If you are reading this review and you have Autism, ARFID, Emetophobia or if your child has any of these. Please contact somewhere else because I really don’t want anyone to suffer the same experience as I did.
If I had been given the basics 9 months ago like a meal plan I wouldn’t have become so unwell. Since my hospital admission I have stuck to the meal plan and I am now at a point where I am able to eat 6 times per day and this hard work I am putting in is having positive results and I am finally gaining and maintaining my weight no thanks to Brownhills.
Lastly, there is NEVER a parking space free at that centre!

Avoid this place at all cost!!!

This place is so shocking I’m still so angry and wanted to wait and not post until the anger had passed… well that’s not going to happen so here goes…

My daughter was referred here in January 2024, at the beginning we thought they were lovely and we put all our trust into them to help.

Jess the dietician who was the only dietician in the whole clinic told daughter to have 2 fortisip per day and try and eat as much as possible. We done weekly intake emails of everything that daughter put in her mouth and given she was focused on 2 fortisip a it was a struggle to eat much on top of these as they filled her up really quickly.

This was never explained to us the best way to intake food ontop of them.

This went on for 8 months no weight gain it was constantly gain 2g lose 2g.

Daughter was admitted into hospital and on day 1 she was given a meal plan and education on how the fortisip work and should only ever be taken after food not before!! 17 days she stayed in hospital for and for the first time she was able to gain and maintain weight. Why wasn’t this given by Jess on the first day we met her in January!! It’s basic care a meal plan and education on how to take the fortisip.

Brownhills prescribed Mirtazapine which my daughter didn’t want to take due to the side effect however they told her it was in her best interest to take it.. after discharge from hospital they wanted to do a referral to another inpatient clinic which my daughter and I declined as she was gaining weight… they went ahead and did it anyway without consent.

Back to the Mirtazapine, we got a video call from Jess, Adda and Dr Farah to say they were worried that daughter had internal bleeding due to the Mirtazapine that they prescribed!!!!

Enough was enough and the care was pulled from them.

They are a joke of a place and have absolutely no clue what they are doing except bullying manipulation and putting the fear into people who are vulnerable never mind with special needs.

An official complaint has been made and I truly hope this clinic is investigated inside and out and closed down.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILD TO THIS CLINIC!!!!!

After care was removed they still continue to contact our GP asking for updates which the GP has also told them that no information will be shared going forwards and today we received a letter from the clinic with utter nonsense on it!! My daughter is doing so much better away from this horrible horrible clinic and will not be back anywhere near it.

Utterly useless in the end. I spent 6 months being lied to about being referred here. After self referring I was seen pretty quickly and the woman that spoke to me was very kind but later on after being labeled an emergency case, I was discharged with my results being doctored. I dont believe I could have shrunk an inch and a half over a couple of weeks. Really not the best place to go. Absolutely do not reccomend. The speed at which I was seen and the kind woman from my first meeting is the only reason for the second star.

I was under this service for almost two years & I have recently been discharged, it saved my life. I have nothing bad to say about The Brownhill Centre & the treatment that they provide for people with eating disorders. I definitely wouldn’t be where I am now if I wasn’t referred. Thank you for helping me get my life back 🥰.

Fantastic, of course all clinicians are different, but having met and worked with most at some point. Overall the service is good, with some incredible clinicians on top, including the service runner (not sure of his official title).
