I find the 1-star reviews bizarre. Been using this surgery since I moved to the area, and there’s never been a time where I have struggled to get an appointment. All you have to do is call at 8am, or you have until 10am to request an appointment on their website, instead. I’ve always been given the option of telephone or face-to-face appointments, which is also very helpful.

The GPs are very knowledgeable, personable and patient - especially Dr Saunders and Dr Hazelwood. I’ve never felt rushed during an appointment. The receptionists are kind, if you are kind to them. The building for the surgery is refurbished and very modern, which is a nice touch.

It’s a shame that people complain about lack of appointments, simply because they cannot get up early enough to call for one.

I am utterly fed up with this surgery. I've asked for a standard prescription via E-Consult and have been given an in-person appointment in a month's time. I could get the prescription from Boots in minutes by completing an online form. Why are our taxes going towards these awful surgeries when we end up going private anyway (I've had to have a private scan and two private GP appointments because of this awful surgery in the last year alone)? And what about those people who can't afford to go private and suffer the most from this? I'm going to write to my MP about having this awful surgery shut down and replaced. I urge everyone else to do the same.

This surgery is just excellent. With all the financial, staff and patient pressures they continue to deliver a great service. Both my wife and I had appointments today, made recently, both on time, very professionally carried out and with sympathetic staff. When we speak to friends who live in various other places they are always jealous of how well we are served. Many thanks.

Utterly pathetic that my 4yr old can't get an appointment when the phone is finally answered at 8.10 as all the appointments have been taken by old people who just want to chat or have a little cough

I can't speak highly enough of the staff, doctors, and care provided by the Billingshurst Surgery. While caring for my Mother, who recently passed, they have been incredible. Helping to fill prescriptions urgently and always being polite and friendly throughout the whole process. The surgery is clean and quiet. Dr. Saunders was excellent and I wish I could have her as my GP when I return home. No one wants to visit the doctors but they helped tremendously during a very testing time. Thank you and keep up the good work.

Trying to make an appointment is near impossible, it’s beyond belief how poor it is, so frustrating. I don’t go to the doctor that often, so when I do there’s generally good reason but Billingshurst surgery need to up their game. Very poor!

UPDATE 9/2024: I am yet again revising this review to say that the surgery has improved a great deal -- appointments are available more easily, due to upgraded procedures that get you in within 24 hours for something urgent, good referrals system, also able to book 1-2 weeks out if for routine care.

PREVIOUSLY
UPDATE 10/2023: I have been a patient at this surgery for 21 years. For 19 years I gave the surgery a 5 star rating. This year I give it 2 stars. My GP of 19 years regularly rang me at home (due to serious chronic illness). My new GP hurled sarcastic remarks at me this year on a telephone consultation, no doubt because they resent the work pressures she currently faces. The surgery is doing the best it can for the most part, what’s going wrong is NHS England is currently failing on almost everything.

PREVIOUSLY:

We have been patients at the surgery for 18 years. Over the years there have been two major stressors on the practice that have had temporary negative consequences: the huge influx of new housing without adequate NHS provision in place (the NHS refused to fund expansion until AFTER new residents arrived), and now the pandemic. Overall, our family have received excellent care throughout and we have established, stable relationships with our same doctors for well over a decade. We have achieved good outcomes with serious health issues including cancer, a child hospitalised and a complex mental health condition and had dozens of appointments for medical niggles that were effectively handled. To get the same good outcomes you must be politely PERSISTENT & follow-up when you don't hear back; listen carefully to understand and follow surgery guidelines (such as ring promptly at 8am for appointment success). ANTICIPATE your needs in advance for anything short of an outright emergency -- don't expect a 24 hour turnaround on anything. Yes, a couple of receptionists have been exasperating (but did you know this is a minimum wage job with huge stress?) -- that's why I give 4 stars not five . . . surgery manager - you need to intervene on this. If you are contemplating moving to Billingshurst, I would say that we absolutely have a 5 Star surgery (just listen to the impossible circumstances elsewhere where you never have the same GP!), with excellent access to well loved hospitals (St Richards/Royal Surrey) and able to gain access to advanced treatments quickly (over the years our GPs have ensured we've had access to numerous specialists, including the life-enhancing benefit of access to Royal Surrey Hospital's nationally ranked cancer treatment centre).
