This place is very supportive to your needs. I was a patient admitted to the burrows ward for a little over six months, and during that time, even if it doesn't feel like it, the staff are always doing what they believe is best for you. Staff tender to what needs you require and are super supportive. The staff are lovely, always kind and the activity coordinator (Kate) always had fun activities planned. This place really helped me. ?

The burrows ward.
A place where staff are unkind and distant. A place where patients get worse than before their admission. No understanding at all of eating disorders, no care. The staff make the patients feel like naughty kids and not young people struggling with life threading mental health issues. I was here for anorexia and my parents had to bring in the food every single day for me as the food they served would make any patient with an eating disorder relapse. I was bullied here by other patients and other people I know have reported physical fights and other inappropriate events occurring. Dietician was never around. Staff were disrespectful and would mock patients often doing impressions of them. I understand it can be hard to work in a mental health facility but the system in the burrows should have been perfected and tested before they started admitting patients. My parents feel guilt for having me stay there but I was sectioned so it’s not their fault. Night time is awful as agency staff come on to the shift and have no concept of our mental health conditions and forget important things and also there is a big language barrier which makes things even harder.

Would sometimes leave you hurting yourself because they couldn’t be bothered to help, other patients would have to help instead. The only positive was one staff member called Lucy. Helpful, kind and genuinely caring

Why dose this place exist? Patients have 0% to do . They have no activities no game consoles no TV in rooms no pictures on the ward no stimulation .. their are top bosses managing this hospital and under thier care have mentally ill of society. Who are just pacing corridors speaking to.themselfs .. no sports no gym. No English staff all Africans and indians usually all males aswell staff are always in the office and always to busy to do anything fairly straight away...

There's nobody to talk to. Ward is filthy. My cell was never cleaned on arrival

They don't check observations all the time there's no structure there's no nothing go and put cctv here on the ward or better still drag the 10k a month hospital managers down here for 2 days and see what a shambles of nothing this hospital is

Update : my big complaint apparently got investigated one of my concerns was I did not receive my medical medications for the whole time I was there berrywoods response was I wasn't prescribed any meds or on any meds when I've been on meds for years they've apparently concluded their investigation despite the obvious lie and failing with the medication side of things so I'll now have to take this further. I feel sorry for any patient that has to exist in berrywood do not complain to PALS go the the CQC seems like any complaint that's made against this place is rubbished off or never any findings so if you see something wrong RECORD IT PHOTO IT and keep a log

As a relative of a patient, I was left with a positive impression during visits over several weeks. Staff were patient, professional and willing to discuss issues. My relative was satisfied with his care, and with follow-up after discharge.

In for 9 days recently discharged to community care.
Some staff care, some do not and are deeply unprofessional.
Food is good and new ward matron was very good and took my complaints seriously and is looking into them and will liase again with me.
Occupational therapy staff were fantastic but more activities are needed over the weekend.
Medical staff good but always room for improvement. They did listen.
Hope that you are never admitted to this place.
On a previous admission i was assaulted by 2 night staff. I could have sued or gone to the press but did not. Patients tend to be kept in much longer than appropriate, leading to a worsening of their mental state. This needs to be looked into by management. I have also experienced inappropriate sectioning which was deeply upsetting. I was voluntarily admitted and when sectioned against my will i was taking prescribed meds and complying fully with care provided. I was def not a risk to myself or others. I was not at all suicidal. Also, they managed to lose my house keys which turned up days after my discharge. I had to get help to break in to my own home. Belatedly the ward matron offered to reimburse my costs of £90.

I was a patient here, mental health services are under so much pressure and all they get is negativity in the press. All I can say is this place saved my life and more importantly my sanity. NHS forever.

As a visitor its very out of town and difficult to get to, parking is usually not possible and badly thought out re being a hard to get to place with limited public transport / bus conections unless live in N'ton.
