Asked for an appointment due to sciatica and needing pain relief (was given an appointment for 3 WEEKS later) . Eventually got my phone call only for whoever I spoke to to relay it to a doctor who was going to call me before 18:30pm , the only call I got was from a number I didn't know so I rejected because I was waiting for the doctor to call , only to be told the following day that if they are working from home it'll be a different number . Now my follow up call is in ANOTHER 2 WEEKS time. If I could give less than one star I would .

I have been with Bankfield Surgery Elland for 6 years now.
I have always found them extremely helpful and efficient. I feel safely cared for by the Doctors, Nurse practitioners , nurses physiotherapists and the reception/ office staff .
I am very thankful that we still have the NHS today .
Thank you All .

So my child of 3 years old has had a temperature of 38 to 40 for 3 days and a cough for a week so my wife went to the drs with her and told the receptionist this, receptionist told her to go home there are no appointments and someone will call!
5 hours later we get a call from the pharmacy and they said we cannot do anything at all you need a dr,
We called at 8am the next day and thankfully got an appointment at 1pm, by 1.05pm the dr had put her on oxygen and called an ambulance and now she is in hospital with a huge chest infection
I have read the note from the receptionist and it only states signposting to Pharmacy first service - cough
Nothing about my wife telling them about the high temperature!
I’m not sure how receptionists can actually decide this for any patient as even the dr we saw said this is outrageous and they could of called the in call dr if no appointments were available
Maybe the receptionist is secretly trained to be a dr and nobody knows or maybe they just do not care these days.
I will write a formal complaint as suggested by the actual dr we saw and the ambulance people

Why are receptionist sounding condescending when telling patients bye after they have not been any help to them. It's as though they can't wait to get rid of the person/patient. Apparently they triage patients who have high heart rate (128 and family history).
This is how vulnerable patients get missed and are not seen quickly enough. If you listen to the call back - I stipulated over and over a discharge letter would not be part of the consultation when a basic blood pressure test would indicate a patient has a high heart rate. Also the doctors could have a look at patients hospital records if needs be.
I wonder how these receptionist are at peace with themselves knowing they have caused someone who has just come out of surgery upset. I shouldn't have guide you towards an outcome of the reason for today's phone. If you can't offer an appointment tomorrow or in 5 days time just say so (or state it as it is - we have no care, kindness and compassion for you having a high heart rate).
In addition to this, I have been begging the surgery to give me a months worth of Amitriptyline instead of 14 days. I knew I was going to be busy and mentioned that last month on the repeat section of the online form. A pharmacist read my notes and instead prescribed 1 at night instead of 2 at night. Now I wage war to get it fixed by people who hates their job. If the receptionists are going to be mean and rude to patients.

The whole team is absolutely first class. My family has been with Bankfield for more than a decade. Very responsive and really helpful.

If my appointment is running a little late (which is rare), I know that the doctor or nurse is giving the patient they are with, the level of attention that my family will get soon after.

As a cancer patient I was asked over and over why I needed an appointment. When I told the receptionist I am calling to enquire when a particular doctor is available. she continued by repeatedly asking me why I needed to book an appointment. That she needed more information. I explained my telephone call was in regards to an enquire. She repeatedly informed me that I need to wait 2 weeks until the surgery had received a letter from the consultant at the hospital. I again informed her my telephone call isn't for such matters and that I needed to know which day to telephone the surgery to make an appointment, since said Dr is aware of my illness etc. The receptionist replied by informing me she'd look for an appointment date (noting I haven't asked for an appointment). Anyways she's given me an appointment 9 days later. The receptionist failed to inform me to contact the surgery the following day at 8am - instead, I advised her I would be calling the surgery in the morning. I then asked her if this is how the surgery (receptionist team) treats patients who have a cancer diagnosis and is needing to see a doctor.
Appalling service — patient care and safety should he paramount. I have no faith and trust in such practices.

I find Bankfield GP Surgery really good. Always manage to get an appointment the same day, the doctors are good & don’t rush you. Saw Julie Atkinson (Specialist Nurse Practitioner) who was fab and explained everything to me and what next steps will be taken. Brilliant service!

Edit! 23.07.24 - got really bad lately - couldn’t get through to make a same day appointment & when I did get through there were none left. Was offered an appointment for 8 weeks time but wasn’t told it would be between 1 & 5, thought I had a specific timed slot. Some GP’s don’t check on notes. Took over 8 weeks to get my results but the GP thought they were only giving me 1 result. (I had 4 results - all abnormal). Really poor.
