My Nan stayed there for respite Aug / Sept 2024.

One day I came into her room to see her flat out on the bed when the ‘carers’ decided to give her breakfast whilst perched on the edge of the bed.

Not sat in her chair like normal or with ANY support for her back.

Who eats breakfast like that ?

She couldn’t lift her own body weight and was suffering from dementia, so her opinion was clearly mentally unreliable.

How long had she been there ?

She couldn’t get up, I was even more shocked to discover she did not have her emergency pendant around her neck.

So if I hadn’t have arrived HOW LONG would she have been laying there ?
Possibly choking on her breakfast too!!

How could she have alerted the staff if I hadn’t arrived ?

Clearly I complained, the same standard responses was received, blah blah.

No suggestion of a refund or sorts for such a potentially catastrophic level of ‘care’.

The purpose of me writing this review is to offer for warning to anything considering this care home.

WHY RISK placing your most vulnerable in such an unpredictable, basic and disrespectful level of care.

Don’t risk it…

Dad joined Layton Grove in November 2021. From the second we walked through the door we knew we'd made the right decision for him. Later dad remarked 'I haven't been this happy in years'.
Layton Grove is goes beyond its description as a 'residential care home'. The place is lovely; more like a high quality hotel each room has its own front door to make the residents feel like this is their home. Overall the place is modern, well equipped and set in lovely grounds. Dad said 'the food is amazing - nothing like what I had expected' whilst tucking into a full English breakfast.
But what makes is place so special is undoubtedly the staff. I have never met a collection of people who care more about what they do. From receptionists, maintenance staff and care nurses right up to management the team, their love, patience, attention to detail and overall quality of care are, in our opinion, second to none. Collectively they looked after dad's every need. When he could no longer make it out of his room many of the staff made sure that they spent personal time with him, sharing stories and jokes, often out of work hours. When they were worried they always put a call in to us to let us know which showed just how deeply they cared. Dad remarked 'I wish I had've come here years ago!'. To say they go above and beyond the call of duty is a complete understatement.
In a time when there is so much bad press about care homes Layton Grove truly breaks the mould.
Our family want to thank the staff for every special minute dad spent with you. He made some really close friends in such a short time and we will all miss spending time with all of you. You are a credit to the company you work for and we could not recommend Layston Grove any higher to anyone considering putting a resident in your care.
We'll always be in your debt xxx
