My experience here was efficient and professional. I was seen within 15-20 minutes of my appointment time at the Outpatient clinic on a busy Sunday afternoon. The doctor was very thorough, knowledgeable, and friendly. The reception staff were a bit un-smiling but I did not have to deal with them much.
So glad that I was finally referred here by 111 after initially receiving some misinformation about getting a prescription as a non-UK resident. I was visiting from another country and fell ill on my long flight to the UK. I got the help I needed at this hospital and although I was expecting to be charged an exorbitant fee for the appointment as a non-NHS client, they did not make me pay at all.

I visited the Minor Injuries Unit, so can only comment about that unit on the particular day I was there. I arrived shortly after they opened, which is at 10 am, and was advised there would be a wait of up to an hour. I was actually seen sooner. I had pulled an intercostal muscle a few days earlier, which seemed to be getting worse. I saw a very kind nurse who did a thorough examination and assured me that, although I was in some discomfort, I was doing all the right things, but that my injury would take a few weeks to improve. I was given a leaflet that covered rib injuries and included some breathing exercises to follow to ensure I avoided a lung infection from not taking deep breaths. I felt I was well looked after and taken seriously.

Had to pop here when I rang 111 for my 1 year old son who tripped and began limping. Got there and sat in a very busy waiting room with a lovely play area my 3 year old daughter loved. Within 5-10 minutes we were called in and my son got checked over. Nothing serious was wrong with him thankfully and the doctor was absolutely lovely with both my children but I cannot remember her name had us all finished up within 15 minutes of being there! Great experience even though it’s somewhere you dont want to end up at!

In spite of being referred by 111 the receptionist sent me away saying that there is no one to attend to me, yet she let someone who had an appointment in. Receptionist stated 111 should not refer me at all. I am now sitting in front of the hospital on 111 call. I am going to submit a formal complaint.
Approachable? Didn't let me in!
Empathetic? Told me to go to another place 7 mille away
Compassionate? Told me to submit complaint.
Professional? Saying "sorry" costs nothing
Can achieve more? Sure, keeping the receptionist empty is an achievement.

Shocking treatment for my 10 year old daughter. We visited Abingdon Hospital for an x-ray on her leg. Firstly, 5 stars goes to the GP who was kind, supportive, considerate and helped my daughter feel safe and looked after. We were lucky we were seen by her. The 1 star applies to the other staff from the very beginning and the end following a second visit. We were not allowed to sit in the waiting room and waited an hour in the car, even when a man offered his seat. The staff were blunt and some were rude. The car park attendant was like a vulture and the pay and display at a hospital is impractical. We were sent home with only crutches and told we would hear if the JR found anything. We had a call from AH the next day. An appointment was made at the JR 5 days later for another x-ray. After 2 nights she was in so much pain. JR trauma unit advised to contact AH and ask for support of her leg. We were seen by 2 women. One took over and I felt belittled by her patronising "lecture". They refused to give her anything. Offered a tubigrip, which took the other lady 3 attempts and still incorrectly done. Had no consideration moving her leg. We were advised to use the leg and bear weight on it. I explained I was concerned that she could be left with no support on the theory it wasn't broken, if it was found to be broken she would have had nothing for nearly a week. Called the JR again, explained what happened. They were shocked at the lack of support - physically and mentally! Brought our appointment forward to the following morning. Lovely staff and another x-ray confirmed she has fractured her tibia. Sent home with a cast and told not to bear weight on her leg for 4 weeks - the complete opposite to the care and advice from AH.

Can not give higher praise to the team at Abingdon Minor Injuries department, especially Tricia who was so friendly and such a character. Made our visit so much better. The treatment my husband received was brilliant and efficient. We were in and out within an hour. Thank you all so much.
