Really upset that I was not offered an emergency appointment for a UTI and referred to the pharmacy instead! Unbelievable in light of the fact that I stated I am allergic to the usual antibiotics the pharmacist can give. I have been with Widcombe for 13 years, and this has never happened before. Good luck getting past the gate keeping receptionist who clearly threw my request on the pharmacy pile with no care! So now I have suffered way longer than I should have. Do not recommend for urgent appointments. Otherwise all the doctors are good in my experience, once you actually get to see one!

Awful receptionist. Tried to raise a formal complaint no response. It's people like her which ensure vulnerable people suffer for a lot longer than they need to.

Ignoring her the doctors are great and the new physio has been an absolute god send!

The notoriously awful receptionist here needs to be fired. An absolute scandal how she serves people in need with sarcasm and rude remarks. If you’ve been affected by her, please make a complaint with the NHS so this gets reviewed and resolved.

She is going to get the NHS sued if she hasn’t already. Shocking.

The other receptionist and other staff here are wonderful. The GPs are knowledgeable and kind.

I’m extremely disappointed with the GP services at this surgery. Both my husband and I have had terrible experiences with the doctors here. A particularly frustrating incident involved the GP asking my husband to handle his own diagnosis and communicate directly with a specialist over email—despite us providing a copy of the correspondence explicitly addressed to the GP and asking for their response. As patients, we’re not doctors and have no idea how to appropriately handle such a situation, yet we were expected to take on this responsibility. *I add an update to my review* *update: because of this terrible advice from the GP and outright refusal to do his job, my husband has been discharged from the specialist care which took two years to organise and wait for. We now have to start the process again as they don’t accept results from the patients and need a GP to do this work.*

Additionally, the walk-in doctors we’ve encountered have been unhelpful and dismissive, leaving us feeling unsupported and frustrated. The only saving grace of this surgery is the midwifery team, who were consistently amazing, professional, and compassionate.

Unfortunately, the poor GP care has overshadowed the positives and left us deeply dissatisfied. I wouldn’t recommend this practice to anyone seeking reliable, professional care from their GPs.

One receptionist was really rude on the phone I recently suffered a bilateral stroke and was asked why I can't go out to get my medication that is very important. She wasn't helpful at all. Also said she'd send a link, this is the second time and nothing was sent again. Widcombe surgery used to be good but very poor now and we've been there 20 years.

Beware the rude receptionist (middle aged with brown hair). So rude and patronising! (I know a few patients who actively avoid her) Also, the surgery often refer an issue to a pharmacist who you are told will call you but never does. Multiple examples of this. I'd be surprised if they pass their next inspection. Pick a different GP even if it is a bit further away.

Like all NHS practices at the moment, Widcombe Surgery can be a little swamped and difficult to get an appointment at. I’ve also had some sub-optimal experiences when I first started attending.

However, in the last year, my time speaking to and being cared for by Dr Harrington, Dr Abson, and Dr Hon have been totally perfect — exactly what I’d ask for out of a GP. Great at building doctor-patient rapport, super at listening to your concerns, and top-tier at creating actionable solutions. Total legends.

Surgery good, but there is one receptionist who is absolutely awful - would not allow me to ask about changing a prescription and didn't even want to hear the specifics, just point blank refused to listen. I'm writing this review because she is consistently rude and incredibly unhelpful. Every time you ask for an appointment she makes you feel like you should not be calling the doctor, not matter how severe the issue you may have. It is a real shame because the other receptionist is lovely and helpful.
