Outpatient. My god, been under mental health service for years and they brought me back from the brink, that was until i got put under the hartley and started getting my care there. Average time with dr on visitis between 30-60 seconds. Not anxious going in but always anxious when leave. I honestly believe the dr i have is making my problems worse and undoing the great help i,ve had in the past from other doctors at different location. Had an appointment last thursday, wk b4 christmas, havent slept since and not urgent enough to call crisis team as not suicidal just yet but thanks to my dr at the hartley i,m getting there. It seems his entire plan for me is to get me to leave the practice which to be fare i,m glad to do, i,d much rather have a therapist than go here and since nhs no longer allows both i,m getting no help here and therapy may be the way to go, only thing is, it,s here and this dr who writes my prescriptions, without which i fear a total reversal of my progress would be assured. I need help and have no where i can reach out to. Drs in here think they are gods and lets be right, were mental patients welfare is at stake, they are.

Absolutely awful no help, staff are untrained let people out untreated don’t even contact person living with mentally ill person to so see what’s going on, awful the psychiatrist is absolutely awful and doesn’t have a clue ! No one wants to speak and even when you ring up they don’t have a clue what’s going on don’t make no sense! Can’t even understand what’s being said on the phone !

Absolutely disgusting inpatient experience. If there were minus stars I would give that. The so called psychiatrist needs to be taken to court and struck off. I was an inpatient for anxiety disorder. Shortly after I arrived there I was 'weaned' very very rapidly off all medication I had been on for years. I slept two hours per night or none for 2 weeks. Shaking with anxiety. He gave less and less tablets every night without informing me of his evil 'regime. Needless to say my physical and mental health suffered enormously. Like a horror story. After a month I was moved to another hospital where I was put back on everything!

I do not understand all the bad reviews on here. I have had only positive experiences with this hospital. The receptionist with the dark hair is always polite and has always passed my messages on to Barry Pritchard who has also always got back to me and accommodated any requests promptly. Barry Pritchard has also been fantastic dealing with my diagnosis along with prescribing the correct medication has made everything so much better and am very grateful of this.

One star is far to much for this dump.. most staff are rude & abusive to patients. If u want your loved ones to get better don't put them in there.. especially the pine ward. Disgrace.. formal complaint sent. Not that anything will get done about it.

I’ve rated this as 1 star due to the negative experience from the consultant psychiatrist on the ward. I, and other patients felt invalidated, dismissed and unheard during ward reviews. Those with personality disorders were treated unfairly and ignored by the psychiatrist. And “have never been treated so badly”. To be ignored when trying to explain how you feel, along with the psychiatrist holding a massive stigma against those with PD’s, left patients feeling very lost. Due to the comorbidity of personality disorders with mood and anxiety disorders, these go unnoticed by certain professionals if they have a strong opinion, or simply ignorance. For example, my family and I are disgusted at the way I was treated by the psychiatrist. A professional who laughs at a patient’s struggles and family concerns, interrupts them, doesn’t listen to the patient and states they “aren’t interested” and refuses to assess that patient when in hospital FOR ASSESSMENT should NOT be working as a psychiatrist or in mental health. Staff members had no positive word to say about this psychiatrist, which says a lot. I wouldn’t treat a criminal the way I and others were treated by him. On a lighter note, I’d like to thank the nursing and support staff, as they are working hard due to NHS staffing shortages. Overall, they are friendly, readily available, kind and caring. They will make time to chat with you if you are struggling. Receiving medication and seeing an on-call/junior doctor was an issue for many patients. They would wait up to 10 hours to speak to a doctor to be prescribed things like paracetamol or ibuprofen. I understand the protocol, and that another hospital has priority over this one, but it has caused distress to some patients in need of advice or medication that would have been much quicker to receive outside of hospital. I’d rate this hospital as 3 stars if it weren’t for the experience I had. Working with vulnerable people isn’t the right job for a person who simply doesn’t care or shows any empathy for someone’s difficulties. It has been very clear that the psychiatrist here is working solely for the money, for his title, his own personal gain and high status, rather than the concerns of the patients. It is extremely difficult to respect someone who shows no respect or compassion for you, especially when being in hospital due to being unwell. I am genuinely concerned about the effects of this on a larger scale. This is my experience, and I’ve already heard plenty from others, including staff. I fear this could be damaging for patient’s safety in the future.

although it’s not a good thing i’m glad i wasn’t the only one who felt this trip was a horrible experience. he called me weird, scoffed, smirked, dismissed so much so that i didn’t tell him anymore details because i don’t plan on going back and will be filing a proper complaint since so many others have experienced the same disrespect it’s horrible. you’re supposed to be helping us not making us worse.
