16 years ago I was one last consultation away from back surgery, having suffered years of pain and disability. By chance I found Angie and immediately under her watchful professional care I started to learn about how my body functioned and to understand that I could reverse the damage that I had inflicted on myself through years of contact sports, the wrong sort of exercise and life generally. There was pain relief too, but unlike physio and acupuncture, which also gave some relief to the pain, Angie showed me how to correct the causes of the pain, to understand why I had the problems I had. There was amazingly light at the end of a dark tunnel.

Now after16 years of 121s and classes with Angie, my back feels incredible. I can move like I never believed was possible. As an example of her effect, 16 years ago before I met Angie I had given up playing golf as any sort of power swing was impossible without risking chronic pain. My handicap then was 14. I’m now playing the best golf of my life, often three times a week, at age 71, with a handicap of 10 and never a thought about back injuries or pain.

Angie is an expert in the science of movement, her knowledge and understanding of how the body moves is unrivalled. She is also natural teacher and always fascinated by how each client as an individual functions. She will help you understand how your body moves, how you can move better and how your better movement will help you to live a better, more fulfilled life. That’s exactly what this wonderful lady has done for me.

After 16 years, my movement journey with Angie continues, with new breakthroughs and new tantalising possibilities opening up. With Angie supporting, challenging and encouraging me, I know there is much more to come. I believe too, if anybody follows the path that she can show them, their lives will be transformed just as mine has been. I cannot recommend Angie highly enough.

I have been going to these classes for years now after a recommendation from a physiotherapist. I don't get back pain anymore and the pain from the arthritis in my knee is much more manageable, almost negligible, with much more movement in it, so I am now able to run again. I move a lot better, my posture is generally much better, and I feel a lot better. I did a 3 day heart tape monitor once and my classes with Angie were the only time I actually relaxed and was not stressed! Angie is very knowledgable about how the body should move and I would never contemplate not going to her classes anymore. Definitely 5 stars!

I cannot recommend Angie's Functional movement classes enough! I have been attending her weekly classes for the past 14 years in person and now on zoom as I have relocated.
During this time Angie has supported me through 2 pregnancies and a back injury. Her holistic approach and unique teaching style is like no one I have seen before. Angie always provides an educational element into her sessions and clearly explains her rationale for each movement component, encouraging individuals to listen and gain feedback from their bodies. Her awareness of the nervous system, anatomy and physiology and the emotional impact of stress/trauma on movement and tone is amazing!
Exercise classes I previously attended (such as pilates) left me feeling tense and uncomfortable around my neck, shoulders and back. I had developed patterns of movement that fed into this tension. Since attending Angie's sessions and with her guidance my movement, posture and functional abilities have greatly improved.
During each session Angie guides you through exercises to soothe your nervous system. This aids to reduce unnecessary tension, improve efficiency of movement, and freedom of selective movement which transfers to all aspects of daily life.
Angie's honest, friendly and professional approach makes class fun and informative. She considers each person's changing needs and adapts her advice and techniques to suit each individual.
I cannot thank Angie enough for her help, support and guidance over the years. She is an amazing lady who certainly helps individuals achieve life changing, visible results!

Angie has been incredible. Endlessly curious about the body and offering tailored insights, her service is difficult to beat. After every session, my body feels happier, more open and I feel more positive - as though I’ve spent a week on holiday resetting in the sun: it is an incredibly nourishing practice that supports my body and mind. With her level of expertise and wisdom, I believe that if Angie was based somewhere like LA, she would be booked up for years. Those of us that are her clients are very lucky to have her guiding us.

When I retired 9 years ago I was not in a good place. Working at a desk for 40 years had left me with chronic back and hip pain diagnosed as thoracic degeneration and wear and tear. Add an arthritic knee to that, and an active retirement looked very unlikely. I reached out to Angie, my Pilates teacher from some years before, and my life was transformed. Angie’s approach to restoring efficient functional movement has shown me that the effects of ageing and wear and tear can be reversed. My arthritic knee now has full mobility and no pain. Angie is a lovely knowledgeable kind and caring lady who understands every body is unique and shows you how to move whilst releasing tension and not just moving from one position to the next but feeling the proprioception of movement. my previously sports mad and now aging and injured body moves better than it did pre Angie’s classes.

Angie teaches on a 1:1 basis and with small groups. Her teaching helps us to reach maximum movement with minimal stress on the body. She keeps a steady eye on everyone, helping as needed.

I have suffered back pain since my mid teens and nothing has brought permanent relief, until I started training with Angie, the creator of the Stirland Approach, about 4 years ago. I am now living back pain free, and I can't tell you how good it feels to be able to say that.

I also have a Ph.D in human biology, motor control neuroscience to be exact. The amount I am learning from Angie about how my body is supposed to move is extraordinary. To find a movement teacher and mentor at this stage in my life gives me great hope and excitement about the learning to come. Definitely recommend, everyone needs to move well.
