My Grandad was a resident at Ghyll Royd and the care he got was amazing. Since his passing I still visit the care home, to sit and speak with the other residents.
I’ve noticed from Ghyll Royd having new Managers, there has been so many different events going on for the residents in and out of the home and for the public to visit. I’ve attended a few of them and the turn out was amazing from both the residents and guests. It’s so good to see residents getting involved, laughing away and been happy.
I love going in with my 2 year old boys. The residents love to see them and the boys love the attention too. It doesn't feel like you’re in a care setting, it’s very homely and the atmosphere is lovely and relaxed. All the staff work so hard and are always very pleasant to me when I go in.
I would highly recommend this care home
to anyone and this is where my family would go if they needed to go in a home.
Thank you to all the Ghyll Royd team.

If only I could turn back time I would never have put mum in Ghyll Royd. She spent her last weeks being not heard because in her room the buzzer would frequently malfunction. The staff were nice but were far too busy to be able to deal with the residents in an efficient manner. Either staff were not trained properly or there was a lack of communication because mum’s oxygen would frequently be turned off before it should have been. She was unable to walk and spent almost every day in her room, it was up to family to take her out of her room into the garden etc.It was heartbreaking to visit her to see her lying in her urine with bedsores so I would visit more often just to do basic jobs the staff should have done. On the day mum passed away my sister was informed that mum was unwell, we all rushed there. My sister got there first and was escorted to mum’s room in silence only to find mum had died. They didn’t know she’d passed away as nobody was with her at the time. My sister was led to believe she was just ill.
We sort a full investigation and Ghyll Royd was instructed to train staff in palliative care.

I attended an event (ve celebration day) recently at ghyll royd care home and we as a family were blown away by the personal touches ghyll royd staff members had to offer. It was incredibly inclusive regardless of ability. Theyre was lots for residents out enjoying the lovely weather and browsing the stalls. We were offered a tour of the new suite and i noticed how homely it felt. Everyone was incredibly friendly both with residents and families. Id never seen acare home put on such amazing events for their residents before. We left to the sound of residents laughing and cheering. Lovely place all round and wouldnt hesitate to send my family member their.

Ghyll Royd was my first care job and I can't think of a better place or people to have learnt from. The training from the management and senior carers was detailed and personal, ensuring the residents comfort and safety was priority throughout.

As I have grown in confidence I have enjoyed working hard with my fellow colleagues. The residents are treated with kindness and a caring nature I will miss being part of as I move up to Edinburgh!

I will be visiting whenever I can so I can catch up with the residents and staff !

My father was a resident of this care home for 2 years and passed away very recently. I can honestly say that this home made my fathers last two years of his life the best it could have been. The staff were very caring towards him and his needs were attended to with no effort. He was very happy in the home and this brought myself and our family much comfort. With the year that has been very challenging for all the reasons in the world, the managers of the care home and staff have been very responsive to us as a family of which we are truly grateful for. Even though we have only been able to see our father through the window, which of course was the best way to keep all the residents that live at the home safe from this dreadful virus. When father became near end of life the staff were very susceptible to his changing condition and we were able to safely visit him in the home, of again which we are truly grateful. I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a place to live that would like to be treated with the upmost respect and dignity, promoting choices as my father would have recommended this home every day of the week. Thank you team Ghyll Royd.

My father spent the last 9 months of his life in Ghyll Royd having spent the previous year in and out of hospitals and a care home. I found Ghyll Royd so calm and caring and was so pleased that Dad had this environment for his last few months. The staff were lovely and the accommodation very pleasant. I couldn't have wished for better and have been recommending the Home to everyone who may need such a facility in the future.
