Review for Arch Healthcare, Homeless GP Surgery

I am deeply disappointed with my experience at Arch Healthcare, particularly with Dr. Kate Pitt. As someone living with a brain injury and autism, I sought medical advice and support from this clinic, expecting a level of care and understanding in line with the Equality Act 2010. Unfortunately, my experience fell far short of this expectation.

During my consultation, Dr. Pitt completely dismissed the underlying neurological and developmental conditions that contribute to my behaviour. Instead of approaching my symptoms from a disability-informed perspective, she simplistically labelled my behaviour as mere "anti-social behaviour," ignoring the complexities of my condition. This approach not only shows a profound lack of understanding but also disregards the legal requirements for fair and equitable treatment under the Equality Act 2010.

The absence of a duty of care in this situation is alarming. Rather than offering support or seeking to understand my condition, Dr. Pitt's assessment felt dismissive and stigmatizing. It’s disheartening to be treated in such a manner, especially by a healthcare provider who should be trained and equipped to handle patients with complex needs.

Dr. Pitt's misdiagnosis and harmful statements directly led to severe consequences, including my eviction from supported accommodation at the YMCA. Her quoted statements, "This is evidenced by hostile behaviour towards staff and residents at William Collier House" and "He is a current risk of harm to himself as well as others AS A DIRECT RESULT OF HIS DELUSIONAL BELIEFS," demonstrate a complete misunderstanding of my condition and a reckless disregard for the actual factors at play. This mischaracterization of my behaviour not only failed to address my true medical needs but also caused significant personal and social harm.

This experience has left me feeling frustrated and unheard. I urge Arch Healthcare to reconsider their approach to patients with disabilities and to provide their staff with the necessary training to ensure that all patients receive the care and respect they deserve. Misdiagnosis and a lack of duty of care are not just errors; they are failures that can have serious consequences on the lives of vulnerable individuals.

This kind of treatment is unacceptable, and I hope that steps will be taken to ensure that others do not have to endure the same experience I did.

Best GP practice I’ve ever been to. You can call or walk in at 8am and 1pm for same day telephone or face to face appointments. YOU CAN GET A FACE TO FACE APPOINTMENT. All the doctors and nurses are kind and genuinely sympathetic. They are quick to follow up with things like blood results, I got a call back with mine the next day. Great with making sure you get follow up appointments and continued care. They do a full health check with a nurse and get you up to date on all the vaccines you want when you join. You can use them as a care of address for your post. All round great practice and the best healthcare within the limits of the NHS I’ve ever received. All staff are a credit to themselves.

I can’t thank staff and doctors enough for the help they offered me after my daughter died in August 2018. She enrolled with Arch Healthcare just too late for them to give her the help she desperately needed - a day before she took her own life. Her previous doctor in Horsham did not recognise her worsening depressive symptoms - Arch Healthcare doctor did. After her death, they spent over an hour talking to me and giving me much needed support - and I wasn’t even registered with them!! They deal with homelessness and mental illness on a daily basis. Far more than the MHTs and Emergency out of hours mental health teams based in Brighton!! Arch Healthcare should be recognised as a gold standard when it comes to treating mental health issues. If any MPs are reading this - take note! I can’t thank them enough - the only ones who stepped up to the plate when it came to my daughter’s inquest. Thank you.

Best GP I ever had (Tim Wortherly). Very caring and understanding. Always will to help and try new treatments. He calls me every few weeks to see how I am. Bonus: when Tim is away or off sick his dad covers for him who is just as nice. Great service.

I am at the moment in the middle of a massive complaint against Dr Tim worthy of Arch Healthcare.
On two occasions he has left me screaming in pain by continually and repeatedly under prescribing painkillers that have been prescribed by my neurologist.
The most recent occasion he cancelled part of my prescription without ever notifying me so in agony I went to the chemist to collect my normal prescriptions but he had stopped them and hadn't bothered even to tell me. This is total contempt for patients. At Arch healthcare they risked my Life by not updating their notes and prescriptions which meant when I went into A&e suffering a massive heart attack they misdiagnosed it because arch healthcare hadn't remove one of the drugs from my prescription list they said when I went back a second time if I have been one hour later I'll have been dead solely because of Arch Healthcare.
I'm certain that they have done some great work but one of their doctors is seriously lacking and treats people homeless with contempt.
