Ignoring the morality of paying for private medical treatment, I have seen two seperate consultants here for different issues and had one outpatient operation here. The hospital is on the smaller side however the care from the staff and flexibility to book your appointments when it suits you is a big benefit. Additionally there is a pharmacy convenniently located on the ground floor next to reception which can fill prescriptions at a reasonable cost.

Parking is a little limited depending on the time you arrive however there is a lovely chap who manages the car park. It is also on the harder side to contact consultants as they tend to outsource their admin to personal assistants who work for more than one consultant.

Prostate (TURP) procedure. 2nd October 2024

Mix welcoming, friendly, comforting, reassuring and a good sense of humour together with surgical, medical, nursing and culinary excellence and you get my recent experience of a prostate (TURP) procedure at the Exeter Nuffield. Resulting in just a one night stay in a glorious sun drenched room with inspirational tree views and a menu that included my all time favourites, banoffee pie and flapjack! Yummy!
Whilst I met many on the huge team that managed my procedure I must single out Miles Goldstraw, my surgeon, who at a previous (surprisingly comfortable) Nuffield cystoscopy had discovered and showed me on a screen the cause of all my problems in that area. Again, he excelled and after just 24 hours post op, a more normal and youthful service is slowly, and comfortably on the way to being fully restored over the next three months.
Farewell dear old catheter! I miss you not.
The care of the whole team, nurses, anaesthetist and doctor was an emotional experience for me, and when I found out that the doctor was there all night if needed I couldn’t have asked for more.

Your last experience of any stay is so, so important, and mine will stay with me forever. My son-in-law rang me when he was five minutes away so I pressed the magic button (that had last been used when I couldn’t open the tartare sauce sachet to accompany my battered fish!) and the wonderful nursing sister immediately appeared, scooped up my bags and accompanied me straight down to the front entrance where my ‘driver’ had just pulled in. Seamless logistics. I was so concerned about getting home to Sidmouth seafront through the rush hour traffic before more of the three litres of water and three ‘silver service’ trays of decaf coffee began to percolate out of me (given to help me pass my TWOC test, trial without catheter) that I now feel I didn’t properly thank and say goodbye to her and hence this review. I recall her arms half raised in farewell as we drove away and it epitomised ‘let the healing arms of the Exeter Nuffield team enfold you, before discharging you back into your world with one less or smaller medical problem than before’.
So, my heartfelt thanks to all those on the Exeter Nuffield team, both on the front line and those working tirelessly out of a patient’s sight.

Driving homewards, on passing through Newton Poppleford where a water main had burst some days previously, another recently repaired ‘water’ main started to flow again! Fortunately, I had been thoughtfully provided with the Nuffield's car friendly mobile en-suite facility, otherwise known as a disposable male urinal bottle.

The future. My pre-assessment blood tests highlighted an anomaly which resulted in a speedy consultation with Tony Todd, Nuffield Exeter’s consultant haematologist. He took so much trouble to minimise my anxiety and carefully explain my likely problem for which he immediately organised the appropriate blood test. A telephone call with him this Tuesday is booked to get the results.
Then a follow up with Miles Goldstraw in three months time will complete this procedure.

Had an Angiogram at nuffield last week from the moment I arrived until I left the staff were friendly helpful and professional. A special mention must go to I believe it was Amy who explained the results to me in detail. A very pleasant experience.

The female doctor who did a health 360 assessment for my mum was rude, insensitive and patronizing - made her feel extremely un comfortable and self conscious. Would give zero stars if I could. Definitely not worth the large cost for such a bad service.

I received brilliant care from the surgical and nursing staff. Polite, courtious, friendly, punctual and efficient. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The food was really good, cups of tea all night! Hopefully I wont need to but Id definitely trust them with my care again.

I have just seen Mr. Oliver Stone for a routine thumb injection. I would like to say that every time I see Mr. Stone, he is friendly, courteous, respectful, kind, caring plus thoroughly efficient and completely conscientious. (If hospitals awarded consultants awards for 'best consultant of the year, 'I would vote for him!)

The staff are only interested in money.
The management have no interest in complaints just the positive reviews. So they will never improve.
Im sure the rooms are better than the NHS but the rest of it is a bit of a scam

Very professional private hospital located adjacent to the Exeter RD&E NHS hospital.
If your visiting, try and get an appointment early or late afternoon as the car park is always full during the day...once inside the welcome is excellent with friendly, well informed staff, doctors, nurses and consultants, I was admitted for a colonoscopy in 2019 and they looked after me brilliantly, the day room was spotless, food and drink was excellent, everyone who I spoke to just seemed so caring, I felt I was in safe hands. Thank you all ?
